Spare balls for the most part are based on preference, I'd think. They all pretty much do the same thing, unless you're looking for one with an actual core. I have a T-Zone, serves its purpose just fine.

I agree with Joed.  If you actually kill the ball on the spare shot, then You can go up to a urathane ball, but if you turn it much like your stike ball, the definately go with a plastic like T/zone, comumbia 300 white or blue dot, the Maxim or any other plastic ball.

If you kill the ball entirely, use your strike ball. Why bother with the added expense and problems of another ball?
 
If you don't kill it entirely or throw it similar to your strike ball, use a less hooking, harder polyester ball, like Storm's Ice Storm or Brunswick's Viz-A-Ball. They definitely hook less and wear less than standard polyester balls like the T-Zone, the White Dot and the Maxim.
