Interchangeable Thumbs
« on: May 15, 2007, 12:22:58 AM »
I know of 3 types that are currently on the market.  Switch Grip, Grip Loc, and Thoms Thumb.

For those are are using them, which one did you choose and why.  I know the pros of having them, have you found any cons ??

I appreciate your feedback.

You can most definitely change the pitch in a switch grip. I've got about 30 of 'em to prove it! Simply drill the outter sleeve at 0/0. This gives you up to 1/4 inch variance laterally and fwd/rev. I have everything from o/o to 1/4 right, 1/4 left. 1/4 fwd, 1/4 reverse and various combinations and variations from 1/16th and up.

Some of you have said that the inner sleeve could get or feel loose.  Is this a common problem and how do you fix it ??

One thing to know - you cant do different pitches in (Turbo's) Switch Grips!  You have to plug (top) the outer, redrill another outer, and drill another inner.  Drilling a different pitch in the inner slug will not work because it will go through the slug and ruin both that and the outer that it was drilled in; it will not work lol.

Mike is correct - I have experienced this.

I have found with the thom thums you have to rough up the surface of the hole in the ball and also the outer part of the sleeve. I mean really rough it up and I use Loctite gel to glue my stuff. You have to make sure you dont get it near the locking notch in the sleeve.
