House heros become house zeros.
« on: December 01, 2004, 01:45:27 PM »
God, this was a beautiful thing to watch.  Like poetry in commotion.

I bowl my Sport League on Wednesdays.  There is a league that finishes up just before we start where bowl some of the house heros, one of which carries a 230 something average.  Well, the lane man usually puts the shot out on an extra pair in case we have a breakdown.  Somehow, these guys manage to talk the manager into letting them use the breakdown pair while we are bowling.

So I'm bowling my game.  Shoot 183 out of the gate after flagging a single pin in the 10th like a complete rookie.  My game finished, I move my stuff to my next pair which is next to the breakdown pair.  I stop for a few to watch the house hacks.  Aw, it was beautiful.  Split, open, split, split, open.  145 for the house hero who averages 230.  The other guys are experiencing similar problems.  Three games worth of problems.  To the house hero's credit, he did manage to shoot 202 before slumping back down into sub-par numbers.

Now, normally I wouldn't care about all of this, but these are the guys who stick around every week and watch us shoot on this pattern week in and week out.  Every week they sit back there and make commentary on how we are bowling and, to be sure, include their own self-worship by saying how they would do it differently and more successfully.

Finally, these guys know what real lane conditions are like.  Maybe now they'll stop their comments and respect us for our ability to average 180 & 190.

Ya gotta love it Pin-Nut.

I'm a house hack but I'll admit it.

Feels good, doesn't it???
I had the same thing happen last summer. So I dared one of the big mouths to come sub. I think he broke 400 for series - but not by much.

Sport shots are a wonderful thing.  Until you bowl in a sport league, you never understand how one dimensional you can be as a bowler and still do well on a typical house shot.

I looked at your profile and see your name is Keith. Did you used to run the proshop at the bowling center in Rocky Mount? Jones?

Nay, not Jones.  I'm the other Keith.

Were you one of the guys over there with Michael and the rest?  Sorry, I don't know your name, but watching you guys was pure entertainment.  (It was probably pure entertainment to watch me shoot 460 my first night on Sport. LOL)  It may sound like I'm slamming you guys, but I know we've been watched before and many snide comments have been made.

Hope you aren't offended.  'Twas not my intent.  I did my best to keep any hint of your identities secret.  Anonymity is a great thing .

Who speaks, BTW?

Yeah, I'm likely to get accosted next Wed. nite by a whole host of people.

I was talking with one or two of them while they were bowling.  The look of confusion on their faces reminded me of a few weeks ago when I shot a 399 (count that a three ninety nine!) on the same pattern.

I'm not god's gift to the sport pattern, but I am averaging 180 on it (in spite of the 399).

Wow!! It is a small world. I did'nt think anyone from our crappy city would be on here other than me. I'm not offended at all b/c I was not one of the guys you say sat behind the last few weeks making smartazz comments. Although, I was one of the 4 bowling on lane 5&6! I respect each and every bowler in that leauge b/c it is tough. I watched a couple games for the first time last week. Was that you that was bowling against KJ? I knew that sport shot was no pie and you have to be accurate at repeating shots to do decent. I have been wanting to try the sport shot since I heard our house was starting that leauge. Last night was the first time I shot it and....Man, talk about screaming backends!! Very heavy oil and then BAM...Dry as a dessert! I shot 218 the first game but that's only b/c I went brooklyn on like 4 shots to strike. Second game went 158 and third game a whopping 139! A 515 series that honestly should have only been maybe low 400.

It was me(Tim),Kelly,Dennis, and Mike. I am the one that bowls thumbless. It was kinda funny to watch a 220-230 average bowler shoot 400 and look suprised! You're right about all those splits too. All four of us were having some ruff splits.

I finished my summer sport league at 170, and I'm VERY proud of that!

In Disneyland fashion:

"It's a small world after all.  It's a small world after all."

Just tell me Michael doesn't have a mean streak.  I don't want to get squished by a guy who stands a good 8" - 10" taller than I do.

Far as I'm concerned, what is talked about here on the forum will stay here on the forum. I know how those guys can act sometimes being cocky on the lanes but you saw first hand as well as I, that they have no room to talk about you guys shooting on the sport shot. I have known Mike for 5+ yrs. and I don't think he is the type to get mad about stuff like that. He is a good bowler and I can't take that away from him but I think now he knows he always has room for improvement. Like I said I have nothing to gain by sharing this with them. I bowl on the wed. night leauge before you with Mike and Kelly. This shot was a new experience for all three of us. Much respect for you sportshot guys!
