Need ball selection help after long absence, please
« on: September 18, 2004, 11:34:31 AM »
It's my first post here so I'd just like to say hi to everyone before i start.
For the last couple of years i've only been bowling once a week, and before that I had an absence from the sport for a couple of years aswell. I currently hold down a 190 average but i'm badly out of practice.
My problem is that my bowling balls are no longer able to cut it with today's latest releases, and i need to get some new equipment If i am to compete at a higher level again.
My mid range balls are fine, as is my spare ball, and all i'm really looking for is a couple of balls for heavy oil, one polished and one sanded.
I'm currently using an original Storm El Nino, and an AMF Nighthawk. Both balls are polished, and have standard label drilling. I have never really liked the Nighthawk, it has never seemed to suit my game no matter what the conditions were like, and i don't really want another ball with characteristics like it in my arsenal. My El Nino on the other hand has always been the ball I pull out of the bag first and has suited my game very well in the past. I bowl semi-roller, and get a fair amount of hook out of my shots, and i'd like something that has a huge hook potential, and similar characteristics to my El Nino. I'm not sure what other features of my game to write for now, so i'll leave it at this point with what i've already put.
I've never been a person to stick to just one manufacturer, so it doesn't have to be Storm ball to replace the El Nino, though if Storm make a ball which may be suited to my game then please suggest it.
If you need any more details about my game before you can supply advice then please just ask and i'll do my best to give you more details about the way i bowl.
Thanks for reading everyone and happy bowling.

Any of thr Track balls listed above would suit you fine. The president of Track Inc.is a guy named Del Warren and he was a Touring pro. He now is one of the finest ball designers in the world. Each of the balls above has a different coverstock and core to match the reaction desired by the company. Also, the balls all are spun on a machine (by hand) to assure that the marked mass bias is where it is supposed to be. A great product with excellent engineering. Track will not disappoint you.

Thanks for all the replies I have had so far. I'm going to have a good look at a few of the items mentioned, especially the Track Rule and the Storm XXXtreme and hopefully i'll eventually meet some of you on the circuit. I'm still undecided and i'll probably need to talk to a pro shop owner about what i'm looking for, and have them watch me bowl with my existing equipment to make a good judgement. Sorry I haven't been able to supply more details about my game, i'm mostly self taught so i know little of my rev rate, or even ball speed. Any more suggestions would be most welcome and thanks to everyone again for posting.
Happy bowling everyone
