Is this possible?

Ok, so many people talk about oil conditions, and how they make the game more difficult or easier, right? What if someone took a reactive ball, drilled it as WEAK as possible, I mean so weak that it goes straight, and "up the backs" the ball, straight, like a straight ball bowler so that it has the built up energy, but no hook so you dont have to worry about oil conditions?

sure - but now you have little or no "area" to miss, so you lose one of the biggest benefits of throwing a hook.  That's why top-notch players will often play more directly when the lane conditions are tough - the lanes provide no forgiveness, so make things simple and play straight.

So while lane condtions can be tough and take away area, they can also be forgiving and create area.  Your plan is great for tough lanes, but would suffer on easy ones.

Too much deflection and no angle does not equate to a powerful strike ball, things you would get from a straight ball, so I would have to say NO.

If any area of the lane is dry, you can drill a ball as weak as you want, but odds are you will still get movement out of it.

janderson said it correctly where it "create area". In my opinion.....The lanes creat so much of what the ball does. You can be the greatest bowler in the world, but if flood foul line to the pit, no one will hook the ball.

All of that big hook, big hit that you see from a ball is partially due to the lane conditions.

Ok, so say I stand on the right gutter, rev the ball up real high, but up the back, drilled so it wont hook, like negative drilling, and aim straight at the pocket, with a 16 pound ball to help with deflection?

How about you just play normally and score 300?
