New Red Pearl Hammer.... WTF EBONITE???
« on: June 03, 2003, 11:21:44 AM »
Okay,

For the last couple of years bowlers have been clammoring for a dry lane ball that doesn't hit weak.

Lane#1 filled the bill for those who have a bit of hand with the XXXL. However for those of us who are rev challenged plastic doesn't move enough.

SO as of late there's been a run on the old red & blue pearl hammers.

To get to my point, Hammer is releasing a Red pearl urethane again, all rejoice right??....... WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THEY CHANGED IT TO A FRICKEN 3 PIECE PANCAKE BLOCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's a pic:

I just dont get it, not only will they not release a real dry lane ball, but they re-release an old one in pancake form.

Grrr.... Sorry to vent, I just see Ebonite as being way out of touch on this one.

I emailed them last year and begged for a hard pearl urethane or plastic pearl with the old High RG Razor block. Response? "We're working on stuff for the tournament bowler". Pretty sad offering so far. Who needs another hard 3-piece pancake ball??

Not that I am overly happy about them changing the Red Pearl Hammer either...but don't bash Ebonite!  They did listen to the requests of us bowlers and are coming out with the V2 Dry.  Mind you it's not a pearl, but according to Brian it was made as a direct responce to people wanting a Urethane ball that will still hit.

Unless it has a super dynamic miracle core, the RG plastic probably wont move enough for a no handed stroker like me.

As far as the V2 Dry goes, it remains to be seen how it reacts on true dry, but here's the description from bowlingballreviews.

quote:
Ebonite - V2 Dry
Description:
-Eliminates the need for a urethane ball on drier lanes -Super low differential core minimizes hook potential -Controllability of a pancake core with the hitting power of a dense core -Recommended for high-rev players or super soft ball speed only

Coverstock: Pearlized Big Bang particle resin polished with Powerhouse Factory Finish Polish

I'm sorry, but the last thing I planned on using on a dry dry surface is a particle ball.

My next question, why do wee need to "eliminate the need" for a urethane ball? Why would a particle coverstock have better hit & carry than a polished urethane?

The consipiracy theorist in me says that it's just a way for them to charge us more for bowling balls since they're using a more "advanced" coverstock, when the cheaper urethane coverstock would do the job just as good if not better on those conditions.

That just makes me laugh. If they were working on stuff for the tournament bowler, why cant they see where a hard hitting control urethane is needed? When conditions get really tough, straighter is truly greater & I thank god I still have my urethane hammers for when the conditions get spotty & the carrydown gets sketchy.

I just cant imagine how great it would be to have some of these advanced cores in a burgandy hammer coverstock.
