Title: How come??
Post by: a_ak57 on March 24, 2005, 02:02:03 PM
You know, I've been thinking.  Why IS it that some people are strokers and others can crank the daylights out of it?  I mean, I hear constantly that revs come strictly from technique and don't really have to do with the person's body (besides having a strong wrist I suppose).  So why is it that people can't seem to get a lot of revs, even if using the proper technique?  And that others have an easy time?  Am I seeing some kind of grey area or something?  I mean, I've always thought it interesting that what I've read/seen is that revs come from execution and technique.  But then how come everyone can't do it?  Wouldn't it make sense that if you taught the fluffer guy the cranker release, wouldn't that mean he could generate tons of revs due to technique?  But for some reason, that's not always the case.  Sometimes it seems that no matter what some people do, they are still a stroker.  Why is that?  Is it because the "revs from technique" thing isn't necessarily true, but just typical?  I know you guys have seen what I've seen, with the typical power players using a weaker release than the stroker using a strong release, but somehow the cranker still gets more revs, but even from a neutral standpoint that the stroker is techincally using a "stronger" release so therefore should get more revs?  I mean, in theory, shouldn't we technically take every bowler and teach them to have a 500rpm release?  But practicality and logic tells me, and I know you'd agree, that even if you do, there will still be people, even if just a few, who won't be generating massive revs, even using the technique to do so.  Why is that?

This whole topic isn't very important, and I'll probably get an answer to make me want to smack my head and say "Duh", but I just was thinking about it, and realized that it seems to be, that there is a very "grey" area regarding revs and why some people can get them and others can't.  Is it really true that revs come just from technique and nothing to do with body structure, or have we just been saying this for no real reason??  Doesn't it make sense to say that for some people it's harder to generate revs than others from a physical standpoint?  Afterall, I'm sure we've all seen a fluffer or someone using a cupped release and all the necessary stuff, but not generating cranker revs.  But using what we've been saying about revs coming from technique, shouldn't that be false?

Yes, I know, I should be doing more productive things, but that is the curse of having a philosopher's mind, always pondering and thinking....

See bones, that's my point.  People can be taught the correct form and everything, so what makes it that they can't execute it correctly?  If you notice, some people just seem to be able to "do it" naturally while others never can no matter how much they try.  That's what I'm talking about with this "grey area".  It is mainly about timing and technique, but there seems to be that factor that can't be explained, why some people can and others can't.

Ok Andy, I'll make it a bit more complicated

Although I'm not a wrongsider, I can use my both hands in my daily life. I can write with left hand for example..

Now with my right hand, I'm a tweener and I do not remember how many hours I practiced to get consistant release with revs. Now I can play up to 350-360rpms if I want to.
With my left hand, I'm a natural cranker. It is so easy to get 450+revs for me. Ofcourse there is no control, no accuracy etc..

Would you like to explain this also?

It's just like rhythm.  Some people have it, some people don't.  End of Story.  When I throw the ball with my two handed release, everyone asks "HOW DO YOU DO THAT?"  I can't explain it, I watched a few guys do it about 3 years ago, tried to mimmick it, and it came very natural.  Other guys try to do it and just look completely silly and can't get the rhythm down.  You either have it or you don't IMO.
