How consistent is your league shot?
« on: April 13, 2005, 04:47:33 AM »
I was just talking about this.  Apparently, some bowlers don't know what they'll get from one week to the next.

The last league I bowled was veruy much that way, too.  One week it was walled up.  The next week, bone dry and throwing plastic.  How hard is it to run the lanes the same way?

So what about you?  League shot very consistent?

Pretty consistent.  Sometimes a little dryer, sometimes a little wetter, but not enough to require a hook monster or plastic.  Usually a slight change with your normal ball will work fine.  ME, on the other hand, my shot is always INCONSISTENT!  Unfortunately, I can't blame the lane man for that.

Our shot is pretty consistent - and it isn't.  About every 6-10 weeks Rich (laneman) gets a wild hair and changes it.  This year we've had PBA E and A, something like a sport shot, a pretty easy "tube" shot around 10, and now we have the "Hope you come back next year" shot.  So in 33 weeks we've seen 5 different shots.  But it really doesn't matter as 80% of the league plays 'em all the same, just like they've done for 30 years, straight up 10.

Our lane conditions are never consistent. The house manager would swear they are but he is a non-bowler.

More often than not, we see 3-5 boards difference between lanes on one pair. One night they will be medium oil while the next league session may be flooded.

Kegel came to the house in October and serviced the Phoenix. Since that time, averages in the house have fallen an average of 10-20 pins for the better bowlers. The lower average bowlers have came up a like amount. It seems the machine malfunctions weekly.

As we are ending league for the season, it appears that as many as 20-30% of the bowlers will not return. This loss is far greater than the 10% per year we have seen in the last 5 years.

The owner of the house doesn't bowl either. He seems interested in improving the lane conditions but has yet to do anything productive. He thinks he can make up the lost revenue in his new go-kart track and miniature golf course.

TT

PS I maintain that the shot should be as consistent as possible with a condition that promotes high scores. This is one way for the house to increase revenue. Our house doesn't have the THS that the high average bowlers here on BR complain about. I invite them all to bowl here and see if they can average higher than the house hacks.

As close from week to week as could be expected. And an absolute wall.

Wed afternoon  juniors for me is usually medium oil and once we get a little farther into the league session it dries up significantly. Saturday morning is usually pretty oiled up so it forces the use high performance reactives or a straighter line is almost necessary

My Wednesday night league shot varies 12-15 boards a week.  Mostly very very dry, hi average in the scratch league is 189 (Me) throwing a white dot ussually around 15 to 5. The other house I shoot at is usually pretty consistent, lots of oil get to play with my saws allot.  Then the travel league you never know what your gunna get.

both houses I'm in are pretty darn consistent....I can bring the same 2 balls or so and never be surprised and usually can count on a few boards here and there as far as line goes....but overall 10 being the most consistent, I'd have to say 8.5

I agree with Bracket, I like having a little difference.  I bowl in a house that is about 50 years old and they still oil by hand.  There's no open bowling so what you get in league first shift is always consistent and then second shift depends on what the first shift does.

There are a few "good" bowlers in the league that swear they aren't coming back next year because the lanes are so inconsistent.  I argue that part of the point of bowling is to be challenged, and still be able to do well but they just shake their heads and walk away like I'm some sort of idiot.  I have the third highest average in the league (194) and this is my second year actually bowling leagues so I feel like these guys who complain all the time are just crybabies.

If you came in and shot 720 every week, how boring would that get.  You wouldn't have to concentrate on throwing a good shot every time.

They're really starting to get on my nerves since my best friend's family own the house and these guys bad-mouth it all over town, saying it's really inconsistent and that it's a "poor excuse for an alley."  I have to go around to everyone saying they they're really poor excuses for good bowlers.

Consistent????   This year my average is down nearly 20 pins in my home house.  We have had problems all season and the high average for the league is around 206.  Only 3 or 4 guys over 200.  Machine issues lane issues oil issues, pin issues, you name it.  I come in one night and average 240 the next night 170.  They are working hard to fix things.  We have been hearing they are going to seriously redo the lanes with synthetics.

mine are pretty consistant except some days more backend than other days but if you throw a thing lives it does not matter mine works on everything.they want good scores in my house so they change out the brushes every time they oil.

After intense ofservation, I've noticed that every other week or every two weeks, there is a lot of backend. Other than that, I'm playing right up 3rd arrow with an polished UI. When there is backend, that ball is ly.
