How did the season go guys?
« on: April 21, 2011, 11:03:22 PM »
With the winter season winding down here I am wondering how everyone did this season? I had a rough season only averaging about 206, but came through when it counted threw 721 last night to help our team win the league roll off(I know a little figjam...) So how did you all fair?

Tuesday night: Finished 2nd, we lost rolloff by around 30 pins. I bowled a low 700, but left FOUR stone 8 pins (righty) and my teammates left several as well. All on the right lane except for one or two., so I guess it was just a goofy rack. Unfortunately, the team that won the rolloff didn't have to bowl on this same pair of lanes!

Thursday night: Finished 2nd in the first half of the season rolloff. (I bowled a 288 last game, we lost it by 28 pins anyway.) We needed to win every game last night to make the second half of the season rolloff for a shot at the championship. I shot a 734, but we lost the last game by 1 pin. I left two flat 10 pins in the 10th frame from not reading the transition properly. Still pissed at myself...

Saturday night: Finished 2nd in the rolloff. I bowled a 725 or so, and we still lost by 38 pins anyway. (Rolloff was done immediately after league, and teammates weren't used to bowling 6 games in a row. One of my teammates is an older lady with a bad knee, she shot a 129 the last game. That kind of hurt us, but you can't really blame her. I can't say I like the way that league does its rolloff...)

So yeah, it could have been worse, but it certainly could have been better. Sorry if the scores in this post make it sound like I'm figjamming, but I thought they added a little perspective, and hell, we lost. I can't be that good.

Finished middle of the pack in both leagues.

We came in 11th (out of 18) in the PBA Experience league.  One team ended up way over the cap and ran away with the league.  We just never really gelled as a team.  I did win 68% of my points which was pretty high in the league.  I did have four 700 series (on three different patterns) and finally averaged over 200 (202).

We came in 5th in a league in which we should have finished no lower than 2nd based on talent.  We did have a ton of super high sets shot against us.  We had a habit of winning one game by a ton, then losing the other two by a handful.  Me and the anchor bowler have pretty similar games.  Ironically, only once in 36 weeks did we both carry good on the same night.  I did have my first honor score in a few years, so that felt good, especially for a place I never bowled before.

I had a pretty good year personally, but felt a little empty because our teams just seemed a little jinxed.

We have bowled well enough to make the league championship.  We have already decided that we are going to take the first place and second place money and split it.  The difference really isnt that much to warrant bowling for the title per se.  We are just going to go in there and have fun Tuesday Night and split the roll off money down the middle.

Probably my best season yet (this will sound like a FIGJAM)...

My team won the league on Wednesday night.  Personally, I finished 5th overall in average at 226 (top righty) and finished behind 4 good lefty's, 2 of which (1 a teammate) were 243 plus, and they ARE THAT GOOD....  Came down to the last night and we vaporized the other team pretty bad.  We were 1 point behind going in (in a 3 point system), and once we won the first game by nearly 200 pins they were pretty demoralized.

My team also won on Thursday's as well.  Came down to the last night and a nailbiter.  Basically, we had to end up winning the last game by 40 pins to win total that night and we ended up winning that last game by 100 roughly.  It was satisfactory b/c we lost both of my grandparents who used to come every single week regardless of weather (I bowl with a cousin and uncle on Thursdays), so winning that was special in a way b/c we hadn't ever won.  Personally I finished at 218, 4th higest average overall, a personal best in this house which is more difficult and inconsistant.

I'll take it....

Second place on my "fun" league that I bowl with my wife. She raised her average about 20 pins this year and is starting to throw the ball with consistency. My average dropped 8 pins, mostly due to recurring knee trouble.

I also bowled a "tough shot" league (bunch of different patterns, never THS) and came in at 187, which put me in the lower third of the league. Made a lot of poor equipment choices but did close with a 619 series the last night. The team finished 5th or 6th out of 8 teams in that league.

This has been a most "Interesting" season for me...because I work nights, I only bowl one night a week at the moment, and nearly all season I was amazingly steady...nothing too low, but also nothing too high(no break out series)...until the past 2 weeks where I finally "broke out" , my highest series of the season was only about 42 pins higher than my average series......that is unusual for me at least.

My team won the summer session, finished 2nd in the first half of the winter session, we're way way out in front in the 2nd half of this session.  3 man scratch 4 gamer with a 615 cap, yes, I know it's low. but it keeps the league competitive.

We started with 580 team avg, we're just under 640 now.  After a 4 year layoff, then an injury last year where I screwed up my slide knee, I came back with a 185 book avg and and up to 218 thanks to a lot of quality coaching and a great ball driller that knows my game inside and out and has adapted my drilling patterns to the improvements I've made in all aspects.

Overall a great year :)

6th place in my fun league on monday night.  Finishing with a 207.  Wednesday league we tied for first and had a 3 game roll off.  Came down to last game and we lost, finished second.  Finished that league with a 208.  Thursday league was at a different house, we were down 1 point from first going into position round.  Won the first game, lost the second game, third game we had to win by 60pins to win league.  Only up 30 going into the tenth, the five of us threw 12 of the 15 strikes possible and locked first place.  Finished 202 at that house.

Not too shabby of a season seeing how I bowled 90% of the season playing the down and in shot.  My first sanctioned 300 and a nice 789 as my highs for the season.

I had a very good season:

In my Monday night men's handicapped league we finished in 3rd place.......1/2 a game behind the 2nd and 1st place teams who were tied for 1st before the rolloff !  I had the high average in this league at 233. My 299 game( twice ) was only good enough for second best as two players shot 300's. I did have the high series of 803. I also had a 290 game.

In my Wednesday night men's scratch league( different house and pattern ) we finished third and stayed there after the rolloff. I averaged 220( good for 4th best ). I tied for first in high game with a 300. My high series was 772( good for 2nd ).

In our local tournaments my partner and I won the scratch doubles portion of the city tournament. We had the 3rd highest scratch score in the senior doubles. I was second in our senior masters tourney. And I finished 6th in our men's masters invitational.

I was also inducted into our association's hall of fame in the superior performance category. All in all I'd say it was a very good year.

I left a lot of room for improvement and futhered my hack status. On a positive note I did finish at 201 in a sport pattern league but it was in a house with good carry and I felt it should have been better.  I feel I overcame some deficiencies while creating others, overall it was a solid year and I'm happy with results, my teams faired well in leagues and I had fun so in that regard as well I am happy.

Finished with a new personal high on average. Other then that it wasn't that good of a year.
