Not sure if they've chaged it recently, but the way Ebonites work is that they measure your hand to get the sizes of fingers, thumb, and span. The drilled thumb slugs have threads on them and the balls are drilled with a few variances in spans with threads to accept these slugs. So when you pick a ball to try, they will give you the grips and slug and insert them into the correct span ball and let you use it until you decide to change.

Ebonite has gone away from the screw in thumbs and I think to IT thumbs or something like it.  The new thumbs work alot better.  The old ones would cut the webbing on the thumb or not get screwed in correctly.

I was at a demo day at the Orleans in December.  There were 20 different
balls available to throw from Ebonite, Columbia, Track and Hammer.  K&K
Bowling Services sponsored it.  It was the best run event that I have
attended, greatly administered and the ball reps were everywhere and very
helpful.  Since then they have limited events at the Suncoast (Hot Sauce
Pearl), Gold Coast (Power Swing) and Orleans (Magic) that can be thrown any
time in open or league bowling by just paying for the lineage.  These events
have been outstanding.

We had a Columbia Power Swing demo for our league last week and they were using Turbo Switch Grips. When Eboumbiammerack did a demo in Sept for the new Hammer stuff, they also used Switch Grips.

I went to the Total NV demo back in 07 and they used the system you described above. It was not very comfortable at all.
