sounds to me like you are going to have to take it to
a pro shop and have it plugged and redrilled to get the
best fit close to the one you are using

yeah if it's off 1/2 an inch it needs to be plugged.. But if it was a relatively short distance you could've put a larger thumb slug in it and drilled it

Best solution is to completely plug and redrill it.  But if the fingers have grips in them and you don't use unusual finger pitches, you can probably get by with just plugging the thumb, changing out the grips and relocating the thumb hole to match the spans.  --  JohnP

If you use finger grips and this ball has them, check the pitches and surface plug them if needed. Full plug the thumb and redrill to get the correct span.

First, why ask anyone here?
I'd ask my pro shop driller first and always. If you don't trust him or her to give you the right advice, you should really find another driller.

Using someone else's span AND pitches is not ... sensible.

Unless both span and pitches for EVERY finger and thumb is the same, EXACTLY, as yours, you are not smart, to be extremely polite, to use it. The release will never be correct PLUS, much worse, you could do PERMANENT damage to your hand.

Thumbs can be slugged and redrilled. Finger holes should ALWAYS be plugged and redrilled. Not to do it is cheap and "not smart". Endangering your health is not macho. It's just  ... very bad.

If you don't like your current driller, tell everyone where you live and how far you are willing to drive because I'll bet money someone here will be able to recommend a good one for you

No fun intended.

A slug is a solid piece of urethane or vinyl. You drill a hole the size of the slug (it comes in a couple of sizes). Glue in the slug. Then drill a hole for a sleeve or your thumb at the proper distance and pitch. Very simple, quick and relatively cheap and very effective.

You really must find a replacement driller. A good driller is essential. There is absolutely no way you can bowl without a good driller to support you and your bowling balls. NONE!

Start asking local good bowlers for recommendations. Most are only too glad to help out a fellow bowler.

Cobra, don't take offense to anything derogatory said here..

Most here were obviously born PBA-ready with an extensive bowling jargon, so they forget what its like to not be an ambassador of the bowling lane.

There are a few on here, however, who offer good advice.

First, I'm assuming LL's and charlest's responses were to my original post, copied above.  I stand by my post.  I said plug the thumb hole, so the pitches, sizes, etc. will be correct, which I agree is extremely important.  Regarding the fingers, lateral pitches are fairly constant between drillers, usually 3/8" in each direction.  The spans will be correct  by drilling the thumb hole at the proper location.  The grips will be changed out to the correct size.  That only leaves the forward/reverse finger hole pitches, and I did address that in the original post.  Most bowlers need these pitches in the range of 0 to 3/8 reverse, depending on joint flexibility.  If the pitches in the ball being changed match up with what the customer needs there's no need to plug and redrill the finger holes.  And that $20 or so savings is important to a lot of customers.  --  JohnP
