How do I get lined up?
« on: February 19, 2014, 10:17:41 AM »
My Monday nite team has had a difficult time getting lined up when we bowl against this one team in our league.

We are not bad bowlers, any of us, however, this team carries a huge 200+ handicap advantage into every match, so we know we have to come out smoking to beat them.

The team has one female back-up bowler, on the left side. One female chuckker, who throws a pearlized straight ball down the middle. A male bowler who throws up the boards only; and a male anchor bowler with high speed and high revs, who crosses everyone starting at 20 at the arrows out to about 5 and back.

We have all struggled against this team each time we've bowled them. No one can seem to get lined up.....and as soon as one of us thinks we are lined up, we either start leaving buckets or corner pins like crazy. We will probably face this team one more time, and I think I'm going to simplify things.

I plan to play just outside of the up-the-boards guy, and just left of the cranker, go more direct with more speed!?? Does this sound doable?

I go against a team of 2 up the boards guys, and 2 super deep guys....The entire year I have struggled.  It is totally because of the bowlers who are deeper than you.  My best advice is to mimic the deep cranker.

I pride myself in being able to play any line....usually the further right I go I need low end and speed...and the inverse as I go left.

Last night I started out with the hyper for the fresh....balled down to the modern marvel for a 10 bagger ball change. ..finished with with a VR solid.  I progressively got deeper and deeper as the night went on...following the 2 crankers.. hitting their breakpoint...

Now i was not comfortable, however we were on a THS...so i whacked it 750 something...i felt really good because the shot break down did not beat me, i beat it this time around.

The crankers were able to throw high end equipment due to their speed, i had to ball down frequently due to my lack of ball speed...but by having a plan it kept me in the game.

How do you play outside of the up the board guy, but left of the cranker if you're all right handed?

That is what I was thinking.  When I have a ton of people all over the lane, I try to stay on the extremes.  Since they have so much handicap, I am guessing they don't come close to hitting a consistent mark.  I would start outside of the "up the boards" person and ball down as much as possible to stay out there.  Once I have no more options, then move inside of the "deep cranker" guy.

If you can't move that deep, then I would try to maintain as little of a reaction as possible.  The more boards you cover, the more chances there are for the other bowler's lines to affect you.

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys. The cranker almost throws the proverbial "Big Wheel" a wide looping shot, out to 5 and back, whereas the other guy throws an angled shot off the right corner to the pocket. So there should be a little room in between the two for me to play but, as you all say.....ball down....speed and expect to hit their tracks where they converge.

I can play deeper than the cranker, but I am nowhere near as consistent on a lite oil shot. I have only played that deep on a heavy oil pattern, previously.

if they both play the same break point(which is what your reply states), you may be able to just get it out to their breakpoint...and adjust your feet laterally to account for your speed and ball choice.

For me. I'd play just left of the up the boards guy so I had some head oil and throw and earlier rolling med performance solid that will start up and cut through any slop. Roto grip rumble comes to mind. This would also allow me to move my breakpoint just left
