How do they keep making them easier?
« on: May 18, 2012, 09:00:54 AM »
I'm going to bowl a summer league in a house that I normally don't bowl at.

It is a singles scratch league bowling 4 games. Last night we had a league meeting and then had a small tournament for bowlers who wanted to stay and bowl some.

There were about 25 bowlers who entered. During the 3 game qualifying there were 3 300's, 2 299's, a 290, and 2 800's shot.

Now these are good bowlers but come on. The shot was wide open, changed little, and the carry was phenomenal.

Every year I marvel at how easy it is to get to the pocket and yet the next year houses seem to figure out a way to make it easier.

Hold area inside and "bounce" area outside. Instant easy!

Is it possible that you weren't bowling on your league shot and in fact were bowling on lanes that had been bowled on previously or had a shot laid down that is more for off-season protection of the lanes, which could lend itself to really high scores?

Yeah, ditto what TDC asks... Also, wasn't it optional "for bowlers who wanted to stay & bowl some", therefore, they didn't put down the shot that night...?  And what shot was it?

If it's the same pattern next week & the scores are high again, then someone should check w/the establishment to make sure the lane guy didn't accidentally put down the THS instead... Or do it before the next league night... Just a suggestion.

you want easy. Bowl any of the "Demo days" events where you get to try out equipment. There fun and I know that folks are trying to sell equipment but come on.

They had run about 10 lanes just for this event so they were fresh.

I'm sure it was their THS. This house produces lots of honor scores each year (200+).

Every house around here runs an easy THS. Big puddle in the middle and dry outside. This wasn't much different than what I normally see in that respect.

But they didn't break down much and the carry was incredible. I could see how someone could shoot 900 on stuff like this.

Even though it is a scratch league, no one runs tough shots for leagues around here. All the sport leagues have died out other than some short season summer leagues.

I'm a house bowler and full well know my limitations.
