How do you become an Amateur Staff Member?
« on: December 26, 2005, 10:21:26 AM »
I'm sure this has been asked many times before, but I was wondering how does someone become an amateur staff memeber for a ball company?  Do they consider how many staff members are in that area? or anything else of that nature?  I live in Louisville, Kentucky and I'm pretty sure that there aren't many, if any at all staff members in the area, and was wondering if there was anything I could do to become one, or do they approach you.  Thanks for any help you all can give me.

Yes, as Aus leftie put it, it's all about PROMOTING the brand. I represent TRACK also, I promote the heck out of all of there products locally, and also attend trade shows to hep introduce new products. Also, in the NEAR future, I'll be teaming up with Bob Learn Jr. to do some clinics!!! I can't wait!!

Most staffers are decent bowlers.  But more staffers have contracts because they know someone, moreso than because they can bowl well.

Think about it.  If a staffer gets 20 balls in a year (many get a whole lot more), plus shirts and bags.  That's a committment of about $2500.  Why would a company give you $2500 worth of equipment?  Where the ROI?  You had better be a VERY good bowler (like a consistent megabuck winner, ie Barnes), a VERY big influence (like a pro shop owner), or a friend of someone.

But yes, you can still get on staff if you are a hardcore promoter... with a lot of azz kissing.  There are times where Dyno-thane gets over a dozen e-mail per day asking to get on staff.  And they are a small company.  Imagine what the big boys are getting!

The truth is, almost everyone who deserves a contract already has one.

Also why I don't make much of their ball reviews.  I'd rather listen to someone who isn't paid or gotten something free.
