Seeing posts about using dishwashers and rejuvenators makes me want to share my technique for removing oil from balls at home that is safe and effective. I have done this to 20+ balls over the years from different manufacturers with success everytime.
The reason balls crack is the overheating and then quick cooling that some techniques cause. When you have different materials making up the inside of the ball, they expand and contract at different rates. This causes the core to expand faster than the cover and vice versa. This can cause core separation and shell cracking. Dishwashers get extremely hot (200+*) and get the ball way too hot.
The way around this is to not use high heat (anything over 125*).
First step is to sand the ball down to about 220 grit, this cleans off the cover and opens up the pours.
Put the ball at the bottom of a large bucket and put about 1/4 cup of regular Dawn (important to use a grease cutting agent).
Fill the bucket up with hot bath (tap) water and cover with a towel to keep the heat in.
After about 45 minutes the water should begin cooling down, at this point take the ball out and wipe it down thoroughly with rubbing alcohol. Dump the bucket out and repeat a handful of times. Some balls will feel really tacky after two applications, others take four or five.
I had an Original Inferno that I put about 2,000 games on because I was able to bleed it about 6 times and get the reaction back. I recently did this to my buddy's Spit Fire that he had already tried to Rejuvenate with no avail.
I purchased a XXX Factor from Jeff Carter that was lazy on the backend until I did this. I have since put about 500 games on it and 4 honor scores.
I hope this helps as it has let me keep some of my favorite pieces for much longer than normal.
