Why doesn't the PBA have one stop on the tour that only allows plastic equipment (No Cores)? or Maybe it should be the MASTERS?

I think there is a place for this kind of tournament.

If the PBA had this sort of stop it's my belief that very few individuals would care to even compete in it.

While there may be a place for this sort of event, there isn't a great deal of interest in them.

I like the idea. However I think it would be sweet to have a league where you get one ball, plastic, and you can drill it however you want, but everyone in the league has to use the same ball. They put down a short oil pattern like they did in the past...and everyone have at it

I actually ran a plastic ball only tournament for a couple of years in my home house. We bowled 5 games across 10 lanes for qualifying then cut for match play.

It was a great deal of fun. The balls would hook like mad on the short oil to start with but then begin skidding like mad when the oil pushed to the back.

A lot of ballreviews members from the Midwest came. Unfortunately, I couldn't get enough local support to keep it going. It's too bad; we were even getting Visionary and Lane 1 to donate some merch. for the event. I'd love to get it going again, but I'm just not sure we'd get enough people to make it worthwhile.

I also thought about the notion of bowling a plastic ball only league, but I know there's no way in hell the guys around here would be willing to put up money for something that would smash their averages. Oh well, we can dream, right?

Sort of like NASCAR where the emphasis of winning is how good the driver is, not the car. The NASCAR's have all the same horsepower.

I agree with Greg T. Norm Duke and also WRW Jr. would both be on top of the money board. As they are now.

I agree with Greg T. Norm Duke and also WRW Jr. would both be on top of the money board. As they are now.

Not even close. I've covered NASCAR as part of my job for years and if you think the cars are even remotely close together, I'll be happy to educate you.

NASCAR wants you to think that, but the amount of horsepower differential across the different engine builders (as many as four or five for each "brand," except for Toyota, and I don't yet know how that's going to work) is substantial enough without the amount of money it takes to equalize aerodynamics, handling, etc.

To make a very long, boring story short, if you take Tony Stewart out of the #20 and put him in even one of the mid-level cars -- say, Jeff Green's #66 ride -- Stewart will run just about where Green does, maybe a little higher but not much.

NASCAR is still very much a spend-money-to-make-money affair.

As it relates to bowling, if you want to have plastic-only tournaments just for the heck of it sometimes, that's fine, but in my opinion it's like playing a golf tournament with wood-shafted clubs: That's where our sport was, not is. I kind of get tired of people talking about it like that was the pinnacle of the sport and what's going on today doesn't matter.

And THAT is going to KILL NASCAR. They've already lost a ton of long time, die hard fans with their "new look" and this will hurt them even more...

It's still not an apt comparison. A short explanation...

In NASCAR, let's limit this to the Dodges -- Evernham, Ernie Elliot, Penske-Jasper, Ash, Arrington and Pro-Motors all build engines. Each starts with the same basic specs but the finished product is different, and none of those engines have exact performance characteristics.

If you want to win, though, you buy from Evernham or Penske-Jasper, or maybe Ernie Elliot.

If you want to compare standard ball to something in racing, compare it to the IROC series -- identical cars prepared by third parties. It's the only form of racing that takes setup completely out of the equation.

However, like standard ball, IROC is always going to favor a certain style of driving over the others. IROC has pulled drivers from World Of Outlaws before, but when does IROC ever run a race that plays into a World Of Outlaws' driver's skills?

While I think this would be a fun tourney, I do not think many guys wouold do it for the same reason they do not bowl sport leagues (or PBA Experience leagues). EGO. Plain and simple, they want big scores.

Lets face it folks. We are the minority in bowling. I wish I could get more people into improving their game through challenging experiences, but the simple fact is that there are too many out there who believe they are ENTITLED to their 700 series every time they shoe up. Sad, really.
