does weather affect balls?
« on: January 15, 2010, 07:50:07 AM »
i keep my bowling balls in the trunk of my car.its been cold lately in my area in va.when i take the bowling balls out of the trunk and straight into the bowling alley, they seem to not be hooking like they should. i was wondering does the cold air have an effect on the ball if its outside too long?

YES...I ran into this problem. Cold and even really hot weather can damage the coverstock and even crack the ball, so try and keep it around room temperature.

if your bowling balls are subjected to extreme changes in temperature, it's quite likely that you'll end up with cracks in the cover . . . especially between the finger holes.  the different densities of the materials will expand and contract at different rates as the ball temperature changes.  in some cases the cover will separate from the core.

modern bowling balls do not like extremes of temperature and/or humidity. keep them stored in a climate-controlled environment and out of direct sunlight.
