For most bowlers in most leagues…….. It would be buying lower performance equipment. The stuff that requires less maintenance and fewer moves through the course of a league night. Most cases the reaction is far better then the high performance stuff they try to make work.
Manufactures and proshops don't want you to know that because it's bad for business in the long run…. And profit margins.
Even more ironic: that lower performance equipment would provide that "look" of more hook they're fishing for. In reality it's not more hook per se.....it's the proper shape. For me.....give me that higher RG and moderate diff and I'll adjust the cover to suit the conditions I face.
It's a matter of what the bowler can physically see and process as the ball goes down the lane. From the bowlers perspective they cannot see what the ball is doing in the first 1/3 to 1/2 of the lane. If the ball started hooking off their hand and covered 15 boards (big hp ball) they would only see the ball making a small move down lane.
Compared to a lower performance ball that doesn't hook till the back half of the lane say 7 boards. That 7 boards is processed as a bigger hooking ball then the ball that covered 15 boards. Until they see enough oil the lower performance ball doesn't hook and the hp ball continues to hook can they tell a difference. Maybe. Most won't face conditions with enough oil for this to happen.
