Steroids & Bowling
« on: January 10, 2007, 06:54:40 AM »
Of course this is a false statement just needed an attention grabber.  Now that I have your attention I'll get on with my question.  With all the steroid stories currently taking place in other professional sports.  How would you react if a story like this really happen.  How would Professional Bowling be able to handle a steroid controversy.  Also is it even plausible for steroids to have an effect on a bowlers ability?

Is this a real post???  Why would steriod use make anyone bowl better??? If you are use free arm swing like most better players i think this would just be plain stupid. Of course Norm Duke on roids might be able to roll the big man weight of 16 lbs into his 60's then

Your putting too much thought into the topic heading and totally missed the point of the questions in some ways.  Apparently if a story like this really did take place obvisouly it would effect you and the sport.  Sorry if the heading upsets you!

I think the high-level players know that bowling well is not about how much power you have.  As a result, there's not as much use for steroids as in other sports where physical strength is more important.  One can develop more than enough strength through traditional means, even for very powerful bowlers like Tommy Jones, Robert Smith, Amleto Monacelli, and some of the other crankers.

Strength is not everything in bowling so I don't see why you would roid up.  If they made steroids for finesse and repeating shots maybe.

The only kind of doping that would have a bigger effect is something that lowers the pulse and gives more red blood corpuscle.

All "enhancement" drugs are not related to muscle mass. Some promote muscle recovery along with higher energy levels. Sports like baseball and football are always thought about for pure muscle mass. Recovery and ability to maintain a higher energy level could be very beneficial for Pro Bowlers. I am suprised some don't do supplements for higher brain activity which people claim help them maintain a better focus. At that level all of them have awesome physical games breaking into a higher mental game level would be huge.
