How does he do this!?
« on: October 02, 2003, 05:41:29 PM »
Been bowling in a wet mid lane house lately.

To compare many houses I play fairly deep for a lefty.
Often near 3rd arrow!  This house I'm working on stopping that swing because to strike most of the good ones in this house are firing bullets up 6 or 8!  (No swing).

At this house one guy who is great in our area and slower maybe can swing a few boards and strike lets say 14 to 10!  I asked a guy how come I could not swing in this house how come I couldn't swing and he said "you are a lot faster!"  I'm barely 15 mph!

Two nights ago a stranger came in and started out with 279 (9 in the 9th) and then then another 8, before spare spare.  And then 8 in a row again, before a 9 cost him his 800 in the 9th again!  Two ringing 7s and he would have been 840!
One of the best other lefties in the area, style sort of like mine shot 610 same pair.

He was a big guy, soft style.  Good cupped wrist, and lots of soft touch.

He also had so much area I couldn't believe it.  Lets say 15 to 3 at the breakpoint would strike for him.  Along with 15 to 6, 14 to 8.

What tremendous recovery and angle and hitting power.
Is it axis tilt?  Someone said he was slower than me but I didn't think much!
What creates this tremedous amount of angle.  I just couldn't imagine someone creating this much angle on this very wet midlane shot! I always though I created some.

Something to see! I really thought he could have shot 840 to 870!

Did you get a look at what he was using, manufacture, cover, drill.how high was he tracking?I have seen people that spin the ball more and track low open up the lanes more than me when I am a high tracker high revs.He might have just matched up better on that paticular shot.Although I know that is your question,How did he match up better.what were the reasons behind this?

On edit
It also sounds as if he had a bigger box(break point area) than you.Did you try his line?

If I had to guess, I'd say 2 things:
1. A very clean thumb release, and
2. Greater axis of rotation, not axis tilt. He probably generates mor eside rotation, resulting in greater backend. (Been studying htis lately and the same is needed in one of my leagues where the center went from medium-light oil to medium-heavy, with some carrydown. Strong balls won't finish without some added rotation.)

Now I have a good amount of axis rotation, I never did try his line as I've sort of been told it can't be done in this house! It is sort of my normal line 15 to 9 sort of thing but doesn't seem to work for many there except this guy and another guy near 13 mph.

It is near my normal line.  I saw another one of my  strong handed friends was unable to swing this line too and was straightening up as the night went on.

PS I really should have and will check out drilling pin to pap and ball.  It was impressive to see this guy make mincemeat of this shot against one of the other best lefties in town.

Any more ideas from the gurus.

Just talked to the only other lefty playing effectively inside the 3rd arrow on this shot.

I noticed my Storm HRG was going brooklyn when played outside but I only threw a couple and never tried the inside with this big backend slurve ball!

Gurus???

LuckyLefty--I think I can add a little since I am more able to open up lanes than most.  I am a low tracker with good revs and more side rotation than most.  When my end over end friends or higher trackers are having trouble.  I seem to be able to open up the lane easier than they can.  On the other hand, I need to change release to more forward roll when lanes are toast and my carry goes with it or else I have to move way deep using my regular A game release to carry on burnt heads.  'Bones is right it's in the release.  I clear my thumb early but keep a very neutral hand not cupped to create more side rotation with a heavier move on backend.

That might be it.  I am good side rotation but a high tracker with little axis tilt.
