New Shoes / First Set Out
« on: January 30, 2013, 01:24:02 PM »
So I got a new pair of Dexter SST6's, replacing my old ones.  Tonight will be my first set with them on.  I really anticipate being used to them after a game or two so I will be taking my time in practice thru games 1-2......

This is the general question:

What do you usually do, prep wise, when you are going to a new shoe?  Anything unique to you?

If you put the same heel/sole combo on that you're used to it should be very similar out of the box. I still always bowl a practice game before just jumping right into league.

I just keep my brush handy for a quick adjustment.

The thing to watch for is the heel though, the new ones will probably be much more tacky than your old one.

God help you, but you don't want to use these in league before you break them in.

I tried and tried and slid with them at home for a long time before I brought them to a practice session. Then I slid and slid and slid on the rug behind the settee for maybe a full 10 minutes. Only then did I take out onto the lane and slid and slid and slid on the approach without even the thought of a ball in my hand. Then I did try to throw a ball. I stuck ta the foul line and "waltzed" out past the arrows before I slipped on the oil and fell on my ass

Sold them within 3 months when the sole separated from the body. Piece of crap. Never even though of a Dexter made shoe since then. Couldn't recommend them if Dexter gave me a Michael Jordan contract.

Good luck!

3G Tour Ultra. Used Linds Exxxtras before that. Starting in 1985 I used a LInds shoe modified by a smal company out in Utah, on whose design the Linds Exxxtras were based.

I hate the single soles; they never work for me. I always use the ones with cleats/inserts/pucks. Ironically, now, shoemakers, who used to use single soles (dexter and Etonics), now make many that are made of of 3 separate sections of different friction levels.

NOPE! but that is an honest summary of what actually happened and the extent to which I tried to break in that pair of shoes.

bigdaddy1808,

Those were the Dexter SST-VIs that the original poster asked about.

Really can't say enough good things about the ss6's. I have tried them all and I keep coming back to my ss6's.

It's going well so far.  I threw 1 practice game (due to being off for a couple weeks) and I'm about 1/2 way thru the first game and the shoes are starting to get more consistent every frame.  Using my old heel and the slide sole 8.
