Drinking and bowling
« on: November 26, 2003, 08:36:03 AM »
I was just sitting here wondering how many of you drink when you bowl.  We have this stereotype has overweight drunks.  I won't lie, I drink quite a bit on my Friday night mixed league.  I don't drink on my other more serious league.  It is peterson points and is the most competitive league in town.  I should be averaging 10 pins higher on Friday but I find myself enjoying myself more than bowling well.  I can throw a good game if we need to win a game, but otherwise I just have fun.  I am not sandbagging I am still over deuce at 205 but I am higher on Tuesday and the shot is tougher.

So do you drink and does it affect your bowling??  I relax if I have one or two but anymore than that I lack the necessary concentration to score consistently.  Thoughts??

One Labatt Blue Light halfway through the third game (if I drink before then my thumb swells).

I drink ice water the rest of the time.

There's one team in our mens' league that gets about 3 cases before every session.  It's all gone by the end of bowling.  That's 72 beers.

Needless to say, after the second game starts it gets a little loud.

Just once I'd like to show up at a place with the lanes FLOODED 45 feet down and flat.  That way I can watch these crankers struggle to find the pocket and leave splits while I come straight off the corner and do nothing but make 4 pins and 10 pins all night.

Many yrs ago, I performed an experiment on my team mates.  I gave them all a tranquilizer 45 min before we bowled in league.  A week later I gave them all 5 mg of dexadrine(a strong stimulant--street name--Speed).
They were amazed at how it affected them and the way they bowled.  Needless to say, the experiment ended after the 2 wks and they decided it was better to deal with nerves or feeling sluggish from a hard days work and bowl without any artificial help.

Bones,
I hope you reported these findings to The Lancet and The New England Journal of Medicine.  I'm sure they're just dying to include something with bowling in it .

Wow.  Based on a 5 man team, that's over a 12 pack each, during a 2.5 hour period.  4 beers per game, a little less than 1 every other frame.  It's also about $30 each just for the beer.  Same guys probably complain if linage goes up $0.50.
