Holy Crap!
« on: August 07, 2007, 07:01:25 AM »
[B) I just found out that there's an average restrition on 700 series awards the the "New and improved" USBC are giving to members. This is an outrage!!
this means that your paying dues to not getting any thing from the new congress. Even now instead of getting a 300 ring every year(Still waiting for my first), they change it to a lifetime award . Once again the little man get the shaft!

I think its time to boycott USBC.  If it doesn't matter about scores (honor scores) and the integrity of the game is missing, forget paying the USBC and have non santioned leagues or something like a TNBA sponsored league.  The payroll for the upper staff of the USBC is out of this worl.  They get paid more then a CEO of a major company.  I was told the president of USBC ( don't know if its president, but top ranking offical) gets aproximately $240,000 a year pay plus benifitsd and per diem.

Now they're talking about raising our yearly dues to $30 + dollars a year.  And for what service?

If you average 210 you should shoot at least one 700 a year if not more.

And really guys, $30 a year?  Divide by 36 weeks (or however long your season is), and it's less than a $1 a week  You pay more for lineage in a month, and what does the house give you if you shoot a 700, 800 or even a 300 game?  Your name on the board and that's probably it.

Our houses here give you $100.00 for you first 300 and 800. That is a lot better than the crappy awards that USBC give out

My house give a shiny, satin disco jacket for your first 300, too.  Man, I desperately want one of those!!!  I want to join the 700 club, too -- you know they get all the chicks!!

IMO, they should make all awards optional.  Some people like receiving them (maybe they have a collection of consecutive years shooting 700, 800 or 300?)  and some toss them in the trash or leave them on the tables at the center.  I think if you made the bowler fill out an award request form that the USBC could 1) cut costs by not handing out awards that some bowlers have no use or desire for and 2) keep other bowlers happy in that they can still receive the award(s) if they want it.  I think most bowlers who want the awards would be OK to receive one per year, per achievement.

Just for the record, in 2004-2005 I avg. 200, and in 2005-2006 I avg. 204.  No 700 either year (although I'd shot a few 700's in the years preceeding, I just didn't hit it these two years for some reason.  I had a few 680's and 690's though...)

If you're going to make ignorant statements, do a little research.  The USBC/ABC president role has always been a VOLUNTEER (that means unpaid) position.  They get reimbursed for travel.

Now, if you want to talk about Dalkin, he is an excerpt from an interview

Your position at ABC is equivalent to the CEO of a $20 million corporation. How does the salary and benefits compare to similar jobs in other industries?

Well, I get all the free bowling I want [laughs]. In reality, what the performance and compensation committee has done is they have looked at the compensation studies for non-profit organizations. Commercial entities are a whole different ball game.

So, where do you stack up?

Uh, the average salary for the CEO of a million member plus organization with a budget in excess of $15 million is $250,000 annually. I'm well below the average. If you pull my 1099, you'll find my current salary is $150,000 a year. Does that mean I'm underpaid? Some might say yes, some say no. I'm very pleased. I make a decent living doing something I love to do. I appreciate the salary I get. Could I get another job elsewhere making more? Probably, but I enjoy it. That's why I left the insurance industry. I was making very good money in insurance, but I didn't like doing it.

I don't know what "Major Companies" you're talking about, but I know a couple CEO's of not so major companies that make WAY more than the $240k figure you made up.

But you're right, that $18 million in Scholarships payable is an absolute TRAVESTY.  How dare they provide such a SERVICE for our youth bowlers.
