how far off am i?
« on: April 17, 2005, 08:30:24 AM »
i took a blade pearl of mine, which i had drilled finger tip with grips, and i plugged it and drilled it finger tip without grips. Now, silly me, i drilled my fingers back in with the same specs forgetting that with grips in a ball, you go cut to cut. So anyway, waht im trying to say is that my span is too short. How much span does grips add to your ball. If i an going down to no grips finger tip, hoe much longer should my span be on each finger? i have a hunch it is like 1/8 or something

i work in a pro shop, yes. I was the only one working for thoes 2 hours though, and i was bored and decided to plug the fingers and go finget tip with no grips. But i mapped it up for teh same span that my hand is with grips in, so it came out short. I wasnt going to re measure my hand cuz i was to lazy, and didnt think about it at the time, and no i didnt have another ball to compare too because this is the first time im going finger tip without grips.

BowlerKidR -- The span allowance for finger grips depends on the type of grip used and the inside diameter of the grip.  To check yours, measure the thickness of the front of each grip and add that to your old cut to cut measurements.  The allowance ranges between 1/8" and 1/4".   --  JohnP

typically I find about 3/16 for ovals, near 1/4 for power lifts.

However realize!  The bigger the finger these figures are then less; for my size 11/16 and 23/32 they are nearly right on.
