How I did.
« on: April 18, 2005, 01:30:39 AM »
Well, I bowled our six gamer on Sunday.  Actually to start I'll go back to Friday nite.  The lane man put the pattern out for us to practice on.  It played about like I thought it might - used a Super Carbide (NOT the SCBomb) at about 800 grit and had a real good look.  Also had a good look with a Silver Streak  Pearl.  On Sunday it turned out that the pattern was tweaked slightly: 29 feet, buffet to 39 with at least one extra load (if not doubled) thru the front 15 feet.  Had the same look as I did Friday nite; struck almost every shot in paractice (a bad sign for me).  Played standing on 26, laydown at 14 out to 11 at the arrows.  Shot 194, 196 out of the blocks, with 5 opens in the two games (whiffed a 7 pin and a 10 pin, plus a couple of other goodies.)  Then hit a pair that I couldn't strike on and shot 179, so after 3 I'm minus 31.  Shot 193 in the 4th to go to minus 38.  The cut at this point was at minus 23 so I'm not in such bad shape if I can go plus just once.  DOOM!  Lost speed control and left 3 washouts in game 5, plus started the game with a greek church (which I Almost picked), shot 151 so, basically, I'm out of it unless lightining strikes - it didn't and I closed with 181 for minus 110.  The good news is that I wasn't red leader (150 better in fact).  The leader after qualifying was a 63 year old senior at plus 119; the number was minus 28.  I had thought that the shot might open up some, but it never really did; 200 games were rare.

What were my problems:  basically my only real problems were reading the transition and speed control.  If I was slightly fast I was looking at something including the head pin and, more often than not, the 10 pin.  Left (I believe) 8 washouts on the day.  Played virtually the same line all day (maybe I shouldn't have, but I had a good look as long as I executed).  Made only 1 ball change (from the Super Carbide to the SSPearl).

I crossed with a very fine younger player from around here who has won on the regional tour and he finished at minus 100+, so I didn't feel that badly about my scores.  In fact, change my 150 to 180 and I'm the best out of the five on my pair.  Had a great time and will do it again.

Doh, I don't know why I insist on typing SSParticle Pearl.  I've had words with my fingers, but they have a mind of their own.  SSPearl.
