Does the USBC really represent the bowlers???
« on: August 17, 2006, 02:23:32 PM »
My gripe,
our league, st. jane mens at five star lanes, in sterling heights, michigan, had its prize money stolen in may, 2006, while it was being withdrawn from comerica bank inside its lobby, the person was caught at another bank robbery in the area a week later, our money was never recovered. Members of the league and its officers have made attempts to contact the USBC to check on its bonding rule, no communication was ever returned, even our local association (GDBA) president has attempted to speak to the USBC and has had no luck, it seems that they do not want to get involved doing what they are suppose to do, represent us the bowler, who pays their yearly increasing dues to probably pay their large do nothing, collected salaries.
Pretty sick, just fill the envelope next week at the first night of league with our due money, its a no wonder while league participation shrinks year by year, people just get sick of the same B.S. NO REPRESENTATION.

I'm a little confused.  GDBA (greater detroit ba) is one of the top associations.  I know the association manager is well respected within the USBC organization.  I hope this is in the process of being resolved and maybe we just have a lack of communication between the league and its bowlers.  Make sure that the league president follows up with the association manager.  Maybe you will already have good news when your league starts in the next few weeks.

What exactly is being done to contact the USBC in these cases?  I know of several cases in the Chicago area where an officer has stolen money and every time it has been taken care of assuming the other officers are following the rules they are supposed to.

If the money was stolen in a bank robbery, than the bank is responsible (or the bank's insurance).  What was the bank's response?

IF I was in charge of things...punishement would not be jail for the robber...

But to instead have him run a guantlet of bowlers from all the leagues as we throw bowling balls at him from the sides.  NO jail time.

If he can still walk when we are done...we let him sit in the stocks for a couple of days downtown...then he can go home!

Does that get the money back?  I don't think so...but it seems fair and like it would be helpful in assiting him to learn that stealing many peoples money...is a lot worse than stealing from just one person!  I'm all for personal freedoms though....

I believe the USBC sanction gives you bonding against embezzlement and up to $10,000 against burglary/armed robbery.

I would assume with proper police reports showing what happened that the money would be replaced by the USBC.

Each league may have to submit a claim.

Hard to comment without knowing how and who has been contacted and what is going on. But I wouldn't expect immediate replacement of the money without some investigation.

our league president and gdba president have both keep in touch and we have had captain meetings over the summer, to keep us updated, it is said that the funds are only up to $10,000 by the usbc, but like comerica bank neither is returning calls, it is a bit disappointing to show up next wednesday to start the season, with the feeling that we are just getting soaked as we fill out our usbc sanction cards, that mean very little.

Hey Chaos,

I'm shocked I haven't heard of this since I bowl in the GDBA.  That's really crazy.  Is Mark Moore in that league?

Keep us updated....

I bowl the summer sweeper at Five Star and I'm surprised to hear this as well.  Having actually worked for the GDBA back in 2000-01 I know that the office works pretty hard to resolve these issues.  My guess is that the problem isn't with USBC, it's with Comerica.  I wonder if Comerica won't help with returning the league funds because once the cash was handed to the secretary and grabbed by the robber, it was considered a robbery of the secretary and not the bank itself.

yes , it was robbed in the lobby, the bank manager told our secretary to hand it over, thinking they did not want any shooting, since he was armed, the bank is the 17 mile & ryan branch
