when you insert your fingers into the holes...

1) can you fully insert your thumb?
2) if yes, do you feel pressure at the tip of your fingernail against the back of the hole?

good luck and good bowling.

Yeah I can fully insert my thumb, and yes I do feel pressure on the nail side of my fingers.

If,in the picture, you have moderately stretched your hand over the holesyour span is quite a bit too long!Nevermind the middle of the gripping hole. What you should be concerned with,is the middle of your two joints.Draw a line dead center of your first and second finger joints(on your finger). With your thumb fully inserted, moderately stretch your fingers over the holes. The line that is midway between your joints should be within 1/8" of the gripping edge of the hole.If the hole edge is closer to the first joint by 1/8" or less, you are considered stretched. If the hole edge is closer to the second joint by 1/8" or less, you are considered relaxed.Either of these are fine, just personal preference.BUT,if you are outside these parameters, you are probably too long or too short!I have seen many, many bowlers be too long. Not as many ,too short.

It's not possible to tell without knowing how your hand is set in the ball.  Many people think stretching their hands in the ball is proper....my span is almost 5" if I do that...but when I relax and let my thumb sit straight in the hole my span is closer to 4 and 1/4".

No offense but coming to an internet site looking for a proper fit is just what is wrong with the game today.  You can ask a pro shop...someone who does it for a living what they think.  The usual response would be "but they don't know what they are talking about"....which translates to "they haven't told me what I want to hear.

You can come to a website and ask questions about some things and get good answers...but fitting is too subjective and has too many factors.  All you'll get is a bunch of know-it-all figjams telling you what they do and what they think is right.

Sorry for the rant...but it needed to be said.  Go to a pro shop....if you don't like that one...go to another one.

If you insert your thumb into the ball and lay (not stretch) your fingers across the finger holes, your joint (crease) should hit the middle of the hole.

That's the easy way to check span. It has nothing to do with pitches, but at least you'll know where to start as far as eliminating options.

On edit: I agree with KWBOWLING. It appears that we were typing at the same time.

My first reaction is the span is too long.

But, we also don't know how flexible you are, if you very limber then, that span could be just fine.  Like others have said, hard to tell on one picture.

At least you did furnish a picture, that is more than most do!

Yeah I tried. I guess. I feel pressure on the nail side of my fingers. I know the span is to long but how much im not sure. I have no versitility with my hand because its to long im restricted to an up the back of the ball, thus creating a very high track.

It's hard to judge how much too long the span is by that picture, for one thing it doesn't show the second finger joint.  The leading edge of the finger hole should fall half way between the two joints.  My guess is the span for that finger is about 1/4" too long, can't see the other finger to guess it.  Shortening it to the correct span will reduce the pressure you feel on the fingernail, but you may also need more reverse finger pitch if your first finger joint is stiff.  --  JohnP

Nice, this is genius.  Let me post a picture of a close up of my finger only over a hole in a ball to have a donk-filled website check my span.  Ever hear of a proshop?
