Arthritic Middle Finger
« on: June 15, 2009, 04:03:12 AM »
My middle finger is quite bent and causes me some misery sometime. What have you done to ease your problem? I'm specifically thinking of reverse finger pitches as well as,of course,a span change. Also I use an extended Pro Release support which bangs against my middle finger. Do you use a support that gives you cupping that is easy on your fingers? any other suggestions?  Thanks.

Your first priority should be finding a good fitter who has a lot of experience.  He will be able to evaluate the flexibility of your joints and suggest how much reverse finger pitch and/or span shortening you need.  There is one product I'm aware of that specifically deals with arthritic pain, Steelfingers, see link below.  I got one of these for my fathare-in-law a few years back and he said it helped his pain.  I got him the one that doesn't have the glove built in.  --  JohnP

I have a buddy the doesn't use his middle finger due to arthritis. Has his balls drilled for his ring finger and pinkey. He has been doing it for as long as I can remember.

Not only are there forward and reverse pitches in the fingers but laterals.  On normally straight fingers I will pitch the laterals 1/4 left and 5/8 right.  This gives the 7/8 difference.  With people that have bent fingers or broken fingers I may move the laterals to 1/8 left or 1/2 right or adjust as needed. (Right Handers Info).
