Usually I bring 4 also.  I bowl on THS, so I try to build an arsenal more for the desired look than the actual oil amount.  I have a good amount of hand, so I can make adjustments off of what I have for most patterns.

Right now I'm using 3, since I have a gap while I'm waiting for the Sapphire Zone to arrive.

Brunswick Sapphire Zone (no idea how I'm going to drill this)

Depends where I play. In my THS house league (on the dry/lihgt oil side), I can rely on my Recation Rip and a polyester as a core combo. Additionally, I take a stronger ball with (you NEVER know) and an Urethane ball, if the lane is totally disrupted.

On my traveling league, I take up to 5 balls with me... depends on whether I know the house or not. A current good core arsenal is my Rip, a Vicious Attack (sheen) and my Fuze Eliminator for oily conditions. Normally, I'd take an additional ball with me just to have  peace of mind, depending on the condition to expect (e.g. a Blade Particle for HEAVY oil, an X-Factor RE-Loaded for control or my Trauma when medium-dry conditions are to be expected).

I bowl in the same house twice a week but the shot is different some nights. So in order to cover myself I usually bring the following:

Track Freak
Inferno/Alter Ego
Storm Flame Reactive
Budweiser polyester spare ball

The shot is more consistent on Friday nights and I was struggling somewhat with my Alter Ego so I went back to my Flame Reactive and have shot four high 600 series in a row and should have shot 700 the last two weeks but that's how things go. That Flame Reactive has more backend kick than advertised but is real controllable.

They all laugh at me, but I bring 6.  It's been a good thing this year because our conditions have been all over the place.  On any given night, I'll end up using 4 or 5, including the plastic......

Ravage (In a fight for 2nd out with the Apoc)
Apocalypse (My go to 2nd game ball)
Eraser PP (When I need length with bite in the carrydown)

Sleep is over rated.

I used to take 4,..now I take one 3 ball roller, 2 balls for strikes, and a spare ball. One reason is that there's just not enough room anymore, some of these bowlers are bringing up to 8 balls, they pile 'em everywhere, there's $10,000.00 worth of bowling balls per pair, and no way to walk to the approach without tripping over balls and bags. Plus with only 2 balls I have to rely a little more on skill, makes me think.
