No coach, although when I was a JR.
The lane man seen me practicing on day
over the summer and offered to help.
I went 1 a week over the summer and
he jumped my average near 40 pins.

Other than that I listen to all advice.

I have a coach now.  It's cool because it's my cousin.  I pay me fee with vodka.

Never had a coach .. and I'm afraid my game shows it. I would suggest that young folks seek the advice of a coach .. assuming there is a GOOD COACH available! Using some of those readily AVAILABLE is a WASTE OF TIME/MONEY! I have been in the presence of MAGIC CARPET .. I think RON has an excellent eye and see's things that most eye's would miss. Would have to recommend him as a coach!

Jeff,

Funny, I've never thought about having a coach.  Guess I wasn't really serious about the sport (football and baseball were my favorites) I basically began bowling as a recreational thing, ya know, something to do with they guys and girls every now and then.  I then began taping the PBT on ABC and learned a lot.  I've never had anyone coach me, I learned the old fashion way... by observation and practice.  I believe bowling with better bowlers made me better.  I wasn't intimidated, hell, I'd practice so much that I looked at bowling in leagues as nothing more than practice.  This was all good until that dreadful day..... I BEGAN TRACKING OVER MY THUMB!!!!  Damn thing drove me crazy!!!  There's no worse feeling than seeing your ball hit your mark yet see/hear it go THUMP THUMP THUMP!!!  I stopped bowling for a year or so (nearly needed a shrink!!!).

That's what amazes me about all the high averages people have at an early age.  Though I haven't been coached, I've learned a great deal about the sport and even more about my game.

I started bowling much like Sawbones, just watched others and but had to try and reverse what they did.  I took a lesson around my 4th year of bowling and joined a learn to bowl class that went into a pick-a-ball league.

20 years later I was really struggling and ready to call it quits for at least 2 years.  I got a coach and worked with him quite a bit that summer and a few more times last summer.  I also check in with him on an as need basis.

I also got the pleasure of crossing paths with Ron Clifton this past May.  What a great experience.  Finally there are my coaches from this site.  Jandersen has really helped me with my mental game.  So in conclusion, I have used coaches and recommend coaching for anyone.

It's funny.  I don't think I would have condidered a coach if my cousin was not doing it.  I'm a high average bowler and I think that I was guilty of a know it all outlook when it came to MY game.  I'm sure there are other bowlers out there that feel this way too.  I'm very glad I do have a coach now, because he has definitely helped me on more knowledge of the game and my mental when I'm out there.

I have been coached by several people but not on a week by week basis.  I went out and seeked on how to become a coach!....  In the process I received some very good coaching myself.  When you get introduced to Dick Ritger, Susie Minshew, Carol Norman, Dr. Dean Hinitz, others somethings tend to rub off on you.

I work with Bob Rea (of the Ritger program) several times a year. Other than that, I have a teammate who knows my game really well, and will help me figure out things on the fly.

I would NEVER be at the level I'm currently at without Bob.

I never really had a coach but I was lucky enough to have my buddy Rhino Page start me off on the right foot with good form and timing and I just haven't hit any glitches yet so I think I'm fine the way I am right now, just need to work on my ball speed.

Never had one, I want one really though. Too much money though. There is a guy who comes to my league, who kind of "coaches" all of us, but I wouldnt trust me game completely with him.

I have worked with coaches, including, but not limited to, Ron Clifton, of Magic Carpet and NC BallReviews.com gatherings.

My others have been Michelle Mullin, of PBI, Mike Jasnau at Lane 81 in the NBS in Reno, and of course, Bill Spigner and Brian Chilcutt at Hawthorn Lanes, where I work part time and bowl.

Having a coach is something I would recommend to anyone and everyone.  I am another self-taught bowler.  I suspect that is similar to the fellow who is his own lawyer and has a fool for a client.

My summer coaching is my therapy  It helps get me ready for leagues to start in the fall.
