How many people need a particle ball these days?
« on: August 03, 2008, 11:41:15 PM »
I'm wondering how many people feel the need to carry a particle these days. The ball companies don't seem too interested in making them anymore. Do the current lane conditions negate the need for a particle ball? If you do carry a particle ball could you please state why and what ball you have? Thanks.

Yes various reasons...they seem to match up well for me.  Used to use a Granite Gargoyle in the past.  When you need them they are a great tool to have.  Visionary Ogre Particle is the ball I will use this year on medium-heavy conditions.

Secret Agent--Sanded to 500 abralon and brought up with Brunswick Rough Buff.
Smooth and predictable on most lane conditions.
Not affected by carry down.
Easy to know when to bag it.
A perfect bench mark ball for the conditions I encounter.

Nothing better in the heavy stuff than particle regardless of the claims being made about the latest reactive coverstock technology.

Obviously, you have not looked at the Lane Masters Line.
There are varying degrees of particle loads(i.e. light/low load, medium load and heavy load), so particle is still and always will have a place in most bowlers' arsenals.

I'd give my left nut for Global to release a consistent reading pearl particle, similar to the AMF velocity or Ebonite Angular One....

Don't give that thing away yet. Angular One was not a particle pearl.

I have the Shift and Secret Agent. Both are good for varying types of conditions especially some of the PBA/Sport type patterns. My Shift is great when I need the ball to still pick up the midlane, but there is slight OB right of my target. Secret is smooth in box finish, but can be taken down to make a more aggressive move especially on the wet stuff.

I've got two particle balls in use at the moment, an Impulse Zone and a Sidewinder. I have a few particles in the past: Big time pearl, Nighthawk revenge, Zone Pro Teal. I just like the smoother reaction shape to be honest

I've got an old Track Champ that I could use if I ever encounter enough oil. Unfortunately, it sits in the garage so if I would all of a sudden need it, I would have to drive home and get it. I do not carry it in my bag of tricks. But I have not encountered enough oil at the bowling centers around her to need it.

Love my Awesome Revs and Wow Pearl.  Particles both.  I also am a big fan of my old Icon 2.

My best heavy oil ball ever....Track Spell....high rg particle!

I guess particles are still it!  For me!

Only particle ball I ever liked was the old Track Enforcer remake.

Other than that it's a NO, there isn't enough oil in these parts to warrant carrying one.  When I do/did I usually have a tough time with over under and roll out.

I just don't think I match up well with them, pearl particles on the other hand I absolutely love.

... I like the smooth yet controll and predictable reaction.

My MAchine is my out off ball when I get somewhere I don't know the lanes and my C+ is my beast (sanded to 500 it is my working horse on oil)

I have only one "pure" reactive right now and the other ball I carry is plastic

I agree with icefiction. I currently have two particle balls, the Storm Secret Agent and Shift. They give me a very consistent look on league conditions. So, you can actually use the balls for all 3 games, with minor position adjustments. I would be nothing without my particle bombs!

Im so glad people are brainwashed to think that TRACK sucks. And its even funnier when im carrying with my TRACK ball and they're going flat ten with their BRUNSWICK ball.
