How many people think....

That ball plug color matching is representative of how good of a driller your pro shop guy is?

So as long as the color matches perfectly he can punch holes wherever he wants?  Okay.

Thanks buggs, also does it dictate to you how good or bad your proshop is?

Some balls are impossible to match correctly.

Awesome plugwork shows that your driller takes pride in his craft.
Shoddy plugwork shows that your driller just wants your money and you to get out.

Yes but what is considered shoddy work.  A nicely cut down and smoothed over plug job is still good work, no?

My driller can match almost anything well, AND does a good job drilling my stuff. He says he takes pride in being able to olor match well and has made it a priority.

I have a ball on its second drill and I'm thinking about a third. IMO the ball looks bad right now. After a third I can only imagine. It would be nice if a proshop operator would match the color best they could.

I completely understand the pride in matching colors as you and dp touched on, as I myself enjoyed matching colors as well.  But I'm just wondering if the perception out there really is that, the better the color matches the more skilled the pro shop guy is?

Great point Buggs41. On a side note. Is there a limit to how many times a ball can be plugged and used in league or a tournament ? Thanks

I don't know if there's an actual limit as even the PBA allows plugged bowling balls in competition.  After 2 plug and re-drills you do tend to run into issues of the plug being in your track.

Not to me, I don't really care how good the plug color matching is. I don't care what color the ball is or what it looks like, so long as it knocks down all 10 pins its good enough for me

The clear plug rule is no longer in effect.  You can bowl with any plug in regionals, as long as the ball weighs out legally per USBC regulations.  The Tour is still using the clear plug rules if I remember correctly.

Even in my mind, I feel that a good pro shop does good plug work.  So many don't.  Matching the colors as well a possible and doing the surfacing does show the pride and competence of a good pro shop.  Pride in your work that you are serious about the pro shop business and doing quality service.  Shoddy work shows lack of dedication to the craft.
