Release problems,help needed.
« on: May 16, 2007, 09:37:13 AM »
Over the years I have always had problems with an "Inconsistent" release, even though I wear a brace.

The problem I'm having is that not only does my wrist still seem to break causing me to NOT remain UNDER the ball, but now my hand is coming around the side of the ball far to early. This means by the time I actually come to release the ball my hand has nowhere to go and as a result I am losing a lot of revs/power which is killing my game.

Apart from possibly strengthening my wrist,is there something I can do (Both at home and when I'm bowling) in order to try and rectify these problems?

Any help would be very welcome

I tried using a small medical straping device instead of a wrist brace and it was how I predicted.... horrendous! I got absolutely zilch on the ball,I think I'm going to need to strengthen my wrist considerably before I'm able to even contemplate about ditching the brace.

I also tried the "Back up first" method that was suggested with similar results, the ball just fell off my hand. The last thing I tried seemed to work the best which was going back to basics and trying to make sure that every shot ended with my hand in the handshake position. When it was done correctly it seemed to do the trick but I was still having consistency problems, one moment I would get very little on the ball and would end up with ZERO recovery and the next I would get too much on the ball and end up through the nose.

One other thing people could help me with is how do you tell whether you are releasing the ball to late or to early? As I seem to sometimes be unitentionally lofting the ball and others double bouncing the ball.

Thanks for all the help/advice

What weight ball are you currently using? I dropped down to a 15 and it's much easier on my wrist.

Hey, if you are looking for ways to make your wrist stronger, check out this device.  We had them on my college bowling team and they work really well.

Hope you find something that works for you.

I use 15lb equipment.

When I next bowl I am going to get one of the guys in the pro shop to check my span with the brace ON and compare it to what I have actually got on my equipment.I'll then come back and post what they are.

I'm not a big fan of those braces with the index finger extension either, mine is manly to stop my wrist from breaking.

As for the video,I will get around to doing that at some point, hopefully in the not to distant future.
