How Many Steps Do You Take
« on: June 06, 2011, 04:48:14 AM »
Was wonder how many steps most of us really take while bowling?  Normally I take 5 steps but I can throw the ball with 3...  I have just started watching videos on how to bowl because this transition is alittle stranger than I thought..  The backswing feels really weird because 2 fingers dont fully extend there arm while doing a backswing and each time I feel like i am gong to drop the ball....

I started with 4, then went to 6 steps for a while, but went back to 4 steps.
6 steps I would find myself speeding up, and 4 steps keeps me slow.

5 steps. Tried it with 4 and a coach also tried to make me use 4 steps, but I found that I need that extra small trigger step to get me moving and feet and pendulum in sync. It is just a small shuffle, though, but without it I am pretty lost!

I have been using a 4 step approach since I learned to throw fingertip when I was 15. Tried 5 step and could not get used to it. 4 steps work for me.

I've always used 5 steps since I was a young kid.  I have tried 4 in the past but it seems to throw off my timing and ball speed.

Was using 5 for many years, then a coach switched me to 4 for several years.  Then another coach switched me to 6.  Each of the switches had to do with the coaches suggestions around timing.  I've felt comfortable with each of them.

4 steps, I tried five, but I had/have a habit of wanting to move the ball as soon an I start to walk. I would like to try five again sometime

I have had timing issues for several years along with an over-riding desire to muscle the ball. I have tried 4 steps, 5, 6, 7and even 8. Currently I use a 5 step but I use 2 steps to get into rhythm.

So I guess 7 steps is my answer :-)

4.5 steps... For all my adult years of bowling, I've been using 4 steps. But, because of timing issues, i've recently added a short "trigger" step. It's working out great so far...
