Terminology: What do you mean by "aggressive"?
« on: April 26, 2004, 08:53:06 PM »
I have heard the word "aggressive" used by bowlers to describe a bowling ball.  I've heard it used with two different meanings, causing it to be difficult to tell what someone means.

One way it is used it describes a ball that grabs the lane early and starts it's turn early.  An oil ball.  Usually a heavy load particle ball.

The other way it is used it describes a ball with a breathtaking move on the backend, regardless of what it does earlier on the lane.

What do you mean by "aggressive?"  In a related question, how about "strong?"  Is that a synonym for "aggressive," or does it mean something else?

We have lots of terminology difficulties in bowling, leading to communication problems.  What do think about these two words?

Agressive is when the ball makes a pre-emptive strike against the pins, because the pins are suspected of having WMD.
