Watched a few times here and there on Xtra Frame but did not watch a whole block during qualifying.  I was mostly watching to see where the lefties were playing to be honest.  Given the pattern, the arena, and the burn and the extra-burn blocks, it did not surprise me to see them relegated to gutter...

I also watched the stepladder finals last night, although I only realized that it was on by surfing the guide listings looking for something to watch.  I did not actively seek it out knowing that it would be on...

The finals were definitely interesting, I'll give you that. Looking forward to watching the full telecast.

Why didn't they use the US Open pattern for the US Open?  This is another disaster for the PBA.

Yes, still entertaining for me.  Congrats to Lavoie for a great performance!

However, I silently weep for the PBA when they pay only $30,000 for first.  30 YEARS AGO they guys competed for a whopping $100,000 first place prize this very tournament.   <cries>

Why didn't they use the US Open pattern for the US Open?  This is another disaster for the PBA.

because it would have been Belmo or Ciminelli(if the Higher Volume 1:1) was used. I agree with the fact of using the 1:1 with the added volume but the tournament was difficult and the cream rose to the top regardless. I though it was great for the PBA because it displayed the new young talent. Only 3 300s were shot (I believe) with one being on TV.

I did not like the Urethane choices for both Maldonado and Simonsen. I'm never a fan of the Urethane Strategy though. Too much drilling knowledge in the world to use balls that don't absorb oil and can carrydown the pattern, making it a mess.

To me the pattern showed who was truly a versatile player who could play any part of the lane and that's the way it should be to be a true professional. Congrats to Frankie on his win.  Well deserved.

to be fair, not a PBA issue as it is a USBC tournament and not a PBA tournament.

This was a USBC/BPAA en-devour, not a PBA event.

This is true to an extent if I remember correctly.  The qualifying portion of the US Open does follow USBC rules to include valid equipment.  However, once on TV, PBA rules are followed.  For example, I can use Lane#1 equipment to qualify but must use a PBA qualified manufacturer for the TV finals.  I could be wrong, but it was that way in the past.

I know this doesn't have anything to do with oil, but I found it an odd and puzzleing situation.

Sponsors... please come back.

Somewhere, I am sure sponsors and prospective sponsors have a video of Randy Lightfoot.  And then they think again about how much to put into bowling...
