Title: How much $ do you spend on league night?
Post by: dgacioch on February 14, 2004, 09:02:55 PM
Just wondering how much you folks were spending on average in your league nights. My wife thinks im on the high side, I tend to think im pretty average. I can afford to spend the cash so to me its not really a big deal.
Bowling - $15 a week league fee Jackpots - brackets, mystery, overaverage, strike pot, team 50/50 $15 tickets - 50/50 and lucky strike - usually $5, we throw in as a team Beer - usually around $10 to $15.
Right around $50
Is this about what most of you guys/gals go through? Help me out here folks, im trying to win an argument. lol

You're the type that gives bowlers the CHEEEEP name.
League $13 Brackets $50 Strike pot $1 50/50 $5 Beer frame $10
Total $79
Cmon, get with the program. -------------------- ~~~SrK - Have balls, will travel

Dgacioch, I do think that you are average in the amount that you spend on league nights. I have had a number of discussions with league bowlers and have determined that the main reason for joining less leagues is the amount of money it takes.
Total $85 and I don't get in all the jackpots. If I did it would be another 15-20.
I can't afford to bowl in more than 1 league a week.

Naw, not cheap just realistic. We generally have 4 seperate brackets (8 bowlers per bracket) at 5 bucks a pop (35 pay out for 1st 5 for 2nd). My teammates get in seperate brackets so we dont bowl against each other. I occasionally get in king of the hill, but lately ive been staying out because its usually a 260+ game thats been taking it and my last games have been low 200's for the last 6 weeks or so. Same thing with high game, its always a 260+ thats taking it. We've got 3 guys in the league with 215+ averages and another 4 or 5 bowling 200 to 210. Im 185 bowler and have been hitting better, but im not in the same league as those guys and i know it. As a team we buy 15 bucks worth of 50/50 and ten bucks worth of lucky strike (5 bucks a guy.) I get in all jackpots with the exception of king of the hill and high game. Occasionally i get in those too, just depends on how i feel.
Might be our jackpot costs are low.
things break out like this
king of hill 5 high game 3 mystery 3 brackets 5 per entry last special 2 over average 3
strike pot 1 team 50/50 5 bucks per team per week
Like i said, i could bowl more brackets, but it defeats the purpose bowling against my teammates. I dont think we have more brackets just because there are so many high bowlers in the league and most guys are 160 to 170 shooters and know they have no chance.
its a small league - 18 teams, but its a cap league and the scores have been so high that we may have to change our format next year, or some teams may have to drop bowlers, the averages have gotten that high. Kegler, that bracket cost seems high to me, how much does your league charge for brackets, and whats the format?

Brackets are $5, $25 for 1st, $10 for 2d. 24 team league. Usually only fill 15-20 brackets a nite. Can't pick and choose in our brackets, league uses bracket software that assigns the brackets randomly.
We also run 9 man brackets starting in 2d game, pays $25, $10 & $5. Extra $5 goes to woman that runs the brackets for us each week.
League is made up of most of the higher average bowlers in the area, little tougher shot than normal. Normally 220-230 will win your bracket. -------------------- ~~~SrK - Have balls, will travel

Our format has the sign up sheet with 8 blank bowler slots. The guy has a deck of cards that you draw when you sign up, your position is determined by your card. There have been a few weeks where theres been 5 brackets, but thats not the norm. Sounds like you have most of your guys in your league signing up for brackets, thats not the case with us.
I cant remember the last time a score of 220 to 230 took anything here. Its happened, but its rare. I made final cut in my bracket last week rolling 214 for my last game. guy shot a 280 something against me.

Speaking of the side pots and 50/50 etc. our home house (AMF owned) will not let us run 50/50 anymore. They have some BS reason which nobody believes but it is really because local management is toeing the corporate line which says that the house wants to run the 50/50 so the house takes in the 50%. We always gave the winner 50% and put the other 50% in the prize fund. So this year, we are not doing 50/50.
Is this a common occurance these days?
I only spend $15.00 and $14.00 respectively. No brackets or side pots, don't drink while bowling. Cheep, cheep cheep says the little birdie! -------------------- What's with the Braille on a drive-up-ATM? Never under any circumstances take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.

I bowl four leagues and they are all different. Tuesday night: $9 to bowl, $! 50/50 and sometimes another dollar of two for a drink or if I get hung. Monday: $5 to bowl. $1 for 50/50 Thur morning: $7.25 to bowl, $1 50/50 Thur afternoon: $5 to bowl, $2 for 50/50 and pots. Maybe I'm cheap but if it cost me $50 to bowl I wouldn't do it.

Usually where I spend more money on side brackets is at the tournaments that I bowl in...

Yeah...24 team 5 man handicap league. Cannot convince these people to go for brackets or sides
$10 league fee $5 50/50 $5-10 for beer ($3.50 pitchers and if everyone buys one the night is just about over)
10 team doubles scratch league. Sometimes there is a high game pot that is $5 for the night. Usually only pays 6 a game and 12 for series.
$16 league fee and thats it.
I try to keep it under $40 a week, sometimes I succeed, sometimes I don't. Depends if I end up in the bar to play darts and ntn triva after league or not.
for a college student, it is probably a bit much per week for me esp since I have $400 in expenses enough outside of bowling and only make about $350 a month...lol
