a no thumb drilling, cool idea
« on: February 16, 2004, 07:02:39 AM »
i know someone who wants to drill a ball with 4 holes, he doesnt  use a thumb. he wants 4 finger holes around cg of ball,
     x x
      .
     x x
         pin
similar to this, x being fingerholes, . being cg
if he rotates the ball 90 degrees in any direction it moves the pin in different locations giving different reactions, i dont think its legal but it cool idea. what do you think

As long as

a) one of the holes could fit his thumb
b) the hole next to the thumb doesn't use a grip
c) the ball meets the static rules

then you could legally get away with it.

You'd probably want the CG near the thumb hole in order to make the 4th hole (which would technically be a weighthole) placement work out.
Good luck & good bowling

Strikealot,

Are all the holes drilled the same size and equidistant from each other?

Constantine,

I thought as long as the palm of the hand covered one of the holes it would be a legal layout? If they drilled the ball so that all for holes were the same size (hopefully large enough to fit the middle finger) and didn't use any pitches, it could be interesting for picking up spares and switching conditions.

yes, he wants all the holes the same size, he is going to do it just to see play around.
