How much a year, do you think you spend on bowling?
« on: April 13, 2004, 04:46:03 PM »
Seriously think about it. How much do you spend, no including equipment, just on renting a lane, or paying for league. Put that then put how much you think you spend, including equipment. (polish, cleaner, balls, bags, shoes, whatever you buy to bowl)

league fees 17 x 33 = 561
Pots----------------> 600  (DOubles/survivor and occasionally other pots.
tournament fees ----> 300
equipment maint ----> 100

beer/soda/water ----> 660
BOwling balls  -----> 1000 a liitle too much. next year 300.

money I won in pots --400
money for finish    -- 200 (200 more if we win first next week)

last year cost me --> 2621

next year I will be spending less money on balls and I quit drinking.
so my cash out should be more like 2k.

having fun and competing --- priceless.

Two leagues (fees)   -   $ 1088
Tournaments      -   $  200
Equipment      -   $  200
Practice      -   $   12

Total Expenses           -   $ 1500

League prized funds   -   $  450
Tournament Winnings     -   $  200
Sale of used equipment           $  100

Total Income      -   $  750

I seldom eat while bowling and since one has to eat something somewhere not all of that expense is related to bowling. I don’t drink beer, generally just get a glass of ice water.

This doesn’t include the expense of travel to tournaments but I generally treat them as vacations. We exchange money on one team for beer frames and pay a $1 for a five bagger but I figure if anything I’m ahead on those stats.

Bowling is one of my few hobbies (or Vices). Almost everyone has an activity they do to just enjoy themselves regardless of the cost. If a person doesn’t have some outlet they can go crazy and if you pinch every penny you end up like Ebenezer Scrooge.

I bowl Winter and Summer leagues.. so I'm going to use 52 weeks in my calculations:

League 1: $20(fees) x 52 = $1040
League 2: $6 (Fees) x 52 =   312
League 3: $15(fees) x 52 =   780
League 4: $6 (fees) x 52 =   312
Pots/Brac:$15 week  x 52 =   780
Balls     TOO MUCH       =   ???
TRAVEL just to nationals =  2000

Total (expense's only)   =  $5,224 without BALL COSTS!

Perhaps I'm in more leagues then most NORMAL bowlers .. but I've been saying that the reason we're losing bowlers is because of the COST and I've been getting FLACK! I don't DRINK .. add that to the list and TELL ME IT'S NOT THE REASON WE'RE LOSING BOWLERS!

So far this year, I've spent $1000 for tournaments, $650 for leagues, and $200 for practice (1.00/game for practice), plus another 650 for my wife's leagues.  So the current total is $2500 it's only the middle of April.

I don't have last year's totals in form of me (I keep ALL of my bowling expenses in an spreadsheet) but I think that including equipment it was somewhere around 6000.

And, yes we spend a lot of time in bowling centers.

For open bowling alone I'm gunna say about $780
Keep in mind that is a very conservative number. That's only for 10 games a week which I usually bowl more. And that is also at 1.50 per game rate. So then you have to figure in holiday rates plus all my extra games.
League wise I'm not sure yet since I'm gunna start joining more.
And equipment not much at all a year. I'll say $50 but i doubt its even that much. I don't buy knew gear too often, what I have works so I don't mess with it.
