I canceled our road trip - it's heck to get old!
« on: April 30, 2005, 01:49:46 PM »
Well, a couple of weeks ago I cracked a rib. Then early this week, a cough snuck up on me, and something went twang, and the pain went from "not too bad" to OMG in one breath.

After that, and the resultant trying to get around either on really good drugs or with massive pain, I decided I didn't want to travel across the country with that kind of liability.

So, I withdrew from WIBC, WIBC Queens, and ABC. And canceled our trip with travel trailer from Oregon to Tulsa to Baton Rouge to New Orleans to home.

Sigh. I was looking forward to not only the bowling, but getting together with people along the way - especially Sawbones in Tulsa.

Oh, well. Guess we'll go next year. Maybe the health will be a bit better by then!

It had to be tough cancelling the bowling and trip.  Heal well soon!

I was going to BR the week of May 9 to 13 but i told the guys last Thursday that i was going to have to past this year.

I hope this little note finds you feeling better.

That cough thing , I think , seems to be spreading across the country. Here, in AZ, we have been hit pretty hard. Folks in and out of the hospital, can't seem to shake it. Get better and heal, there's always a tomorrow.

Sorry to hear that, Mumzie.

Been there, so I know some of that mental and physical agony. (Slipped on snow cover brick steps carrying a washing machine. It landed on top of me and my ribs hit the edge of a step. Fun!)

Get well soon; then get back into physical shape.

Try not to read too much ballreviews; it only makes not being able to bowl seem worse. honestly.

Thanks, folks! I do believe the trip got canceled for a reason...

I was talking to a friend the other night, and she suggested that while she was at nationals, since she bowled team event earlier than our team, and WIBC lets you bowl team event twice, she'd sub for me. Since she's a MUCH better bowler than I am, that kinda sealed the deal. I won't be letting the team down.

My doubles partner also had to pull out, so no loss there.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck...I wonder how many spots will wind up being filled with the subs though since Joyce had already told me about one of the others that had to drop.

At least Reno is a shorter trip for you next year (although perhaps more costly if you hit the casinos)

Michelle,
I was very fortunate - the other dropout was my doubles partner. so they need 2 subs on our team (and got that from my friend) - and there just won't be anyone filling the D/S slots.

To add another piece of "yeah, it was definitely the right thing to do" - the ABC team I was bowling with has likely replaced me with the other guy that wanted to go - I just was the one who spoke up first. He's moving out of the area the week before, so it'll be a great opportunity for him.
