How much Dif/RG Difference before you notice?
« on: July 22, 2004, 10:05:05 PM »
I keep reading about how someone prefers a ball with 2.47 rg over a ball with a 2.49, dif .050 over .048, etc (don't quote me on the numbers, I'm making them up for comparisons sake)

Now, those don't seem like big differences.  At what point can us nonprofessional bowlers see a measurable difference in reaction?

I think you also need to take into account the lane conditions that people bowl on, surface prep of the ball(s) in question and most the coverstock material.  Typically a bowler will find an RG/Diff range that just works for them.  To noticed differences between the various ranges you first need to be able to make all other factors equal before you a/b two balls...which is tough to do.

MOst people seem to notice a very seeable difference in .20 differential increments.

REal ball watchers can see differences in .10 incrememts.

I could take a .20 diff pulse a .32 Sonic Boom and a .45 diff Ego and see dramatic differences in ablility to handle midlane oil and the ability to play inside.  (much greater midlane oil handling and inside recovery with .45 balls).

But if no oil in midlanes then they are overkill!

Note some good balls today have diffs near .70!!!
