I went to him today because I went out over the weekend to throw my new DT Sniper, probably threw about 7-8 games with it, and after a few games I noticed my ring finger was really starting to hurt right at the base of the nail. I had also noticed for awhile that I have a pretty good sized callous on that finger as well, but this was the first time I really had any pain. I had him put different grips in it than what I was using (from power lift ovals to just plain ovals) and initially thought it may have been due to that. I also noticed a gouge on the backside of the grip that looked as if my nail was getting caught on release. When I took a look at my Smokin, which was drilled by the same guy, I noticed the same gouge in the back of the hole. I just hadn't noticed it as much with the Smokin' as I gave up on it fairly early due to not liking the reaction I was getting. I think perhaps my finger pitches have always been a little off, but the larger power lift ovals were masking the problem.
As far as your comments, Scott, I was previously going to what many consider the best driller in my area. The problem was that he was arrogant, I didn't really want to talk to him, and I also didn't seem to get the same service as other people that frequented his shop. Besides that, his prices were outrageous, whether you bought the ball from him or brought a blank in. The Sniper I did buy direct from the new guy I have drilling my equipment, and other than the ring finger problem it feels better than anything else I had previously. Is figuring finger pitches maybe a "trial and error" type of thing?? I've never done what I heard others do, by constantly redrilling a ball with different pitches until I got one that felt right, how can you determine the proper finger pitch?
