I have been reading about USBC proposed changes to ball drilling and am curious about one thing. How often have you actually had your ball checked for legality. I know they are checked at Nationals and state tournaments but I can't recall ever seeing a ball checked in a league. I imagine much like lane conditions the rule will be inforce very seldomly. I don't like the change myself but I don't really think it will change much if the people throwing illeagal balls now just continue to do the same.

I rely on my driller to do that when he drills the ball. The three big drillers in this area are well known and respected. They could conceivably make a mistake but I very much doubt they'd drill something illegal on purpose.
One teammate has a Phenom with 15/16 oz side weight and he's had it checked by three different drillers to make sure it's legal. I'm pretty sure he's used it at Nationals so it must pass muster.

When I go to the doctor. Oh bowling balls I am so sorry. Wow checked at your state tourny don't know if just for your state but first I have ever heard of that. For me just when they are drilled and if I go to Nationals.

I always have my balldriller check the weights afer drilling, in case I want to use the ball at the ABC Nationals. That is the only place I know of that checks balls before competition.

I used to bowl the Michigan Majors(a Michigan scratch tournament series), and they would weigh in balls there(not sure if they still do); the PBA, and, of course, Nationals. Those were the only times I've had to scale my equipment before competing.
