How often have you seen the 8-9 split?
« on: January 26, 2004, 05:12:18 AM »
Yes, that's right, the 8-9!  Tonight in our second game of league, out #2 bowler leaves this unusual split.  I made the comment that I hadn't ever seen that leave before...now, considering I spent most of my youth at the bowling alley, I'm sure I've seen it before but I don't remember it.  Well, believe it or not, two frames later our #3 bowler leaves the exact same split!  I wonder what the odds are of that split being left twice within two frames of each other...got to be pretty big if you ask me!

Well, I've gotta say that's gotta be an awfully bad rack.

I haven't seen the 8-9 left by itself before, but I have seen the 2-3-8-9.
that's the wierdest one I've EVER seen.

another 7-8-9-10 bowler?  I did it once and was on the floor laughing!  Of course it was in practice, i was drunk, and throwing left handed (I'm a righty), and bowling without a thumb.  Freaky leave.  To bad I couldn't duplicate it, that is a very makable split, but you never get the chance to shoot it.  The wonders of my nieces 6 pound bugs bunny ball (it happen to be in my locker and the drinks made me think it was a bright idea to pull it out)

I've seen both the 8-9 and the 2-3 on my Monday league.  I've also seen a few 7-9-10s.

last night I saw the 3-8-10 for the first time in my life...and the guy picked it up (this is only the 4th week he had ever bowled in the league using a fingertip ball..so he is a relative newbie to actually LEARNING to bowl)....

IceEm, when I did it, the ball deflected right off the lane!  6 pounders fly on deflections.

Hey Matt, i think Brandon Q did it once too, rack wasn't real far off spot either from what i read on totalbowling about it(although peoples definition of slightly off spot pins probably varies)

I've seen Walter Ray leave a 8-10 a couple of years ago so I wouldn't feel bad if it happens.  I've done it myself, but mostly it happened back in the 70's and 80's.  When I've done it myself the shot didn't have much back end and I needed to throw the ball a touch slower to create the back end.

I've never left 8-9 but I did leave 1-7-10 last night while subbing. I hadn't bowled in this house for at least a month or two where they have synthetics. My second shot was a little fast, and missing fingers in it, slid by the head and well 1-7-10. I cranked my spare attempt from the 1 board and missed the 10 by no more than an inch with the head pin. I did cover the 7 with the ball though.
