How ridiculous is this
« on: March 20, 2004, 07:00:33 AM »
Our city tournament is under way. Today was singles and doubles....1st squad was at 11.30.....the oil machine broke down, only oiled half he house.  we bowled on the dry side, there was oil but it broke down by the third game, we were bowling 6 games, and the shot got tough as the ball was HOOKING.......so the squad ends, the next squad comes on and there is a group of the best bowlers in town, the real cream of our crop, all bowling on a pair that never got oiled.  They start practicing and stop after 5 minutes....the alleys are 2 dry, the shot sucks, and they refuse to bowl. They got the tournament directors to admit the oil problem, and agree that they can reshedule their squad.  Now every one else in the squad is bowling, no one is offered the option of rescheduling, or moving......the prima donnas decide they will move to the oil side instead of changing squads, the directors agree and thats when all the other bowlers start complaining....that results in the prima donnas reschedling after all.  what a mess.  I have never seen anything like this before, what do you guys think?  These bowlers we are talking about are borderline pros, pro shop owners, real pillars of the bowling community etc.

WHAT CITY TOURNAMENT WAS IT? THE BOWLING CENTER SHOULD HAVE TWO MACHINES ON HAND JUST IN CASE ONE BREAKS DOWN. I WILLING TO BET THAT THAT CENTER WON'T HOST A CITY TOURNAMENT AGAIN IF THERE'S OTHER CENTERS AROUND.
I hate ten pins but love the game of bowling with just the right ball to take them out.

AM not A CHICK OF BOWLING but I wanted to be in Manda's clique And why would I "saw" pins in half, THATS A WASTE OF PINS! I'd rather blow it over with my storm, and 21mph ball speed on dry shots.

So if i understand correctly:  The amateurs got their way, and not the good bowlers?  Or am i just too tired.

If so, that's pretty stupid.

Was it a big tournament?  I hope not...that's irresponsible on the house's part...

So, yes, this is ridiculous!

Being that the conditions were unfair, as in not consistent for all competitors, it should have been called off and rescheduled.  As for the whining about the dry conditions, I'm sick of all the complaining about conditions from all these "adult" bowlers that can't handle it if they don't have a perfectly fresh cake shot every week.  Makes me sick.  Learn how to bowl, geez.

I agree with Sawbones.

Hamster - it is not a matter of learning to bowl.  These "prima donnas" just wanted the same chance to win as everyone else.  A fair tournament should have the same conditions for ALL bowlers that enter.

Any way you cut it the house messed up big time.

No matter what the shot turns out to be squad to squad,
it should start out the same the first squad.  If it
does not then the house itself is guilty of tipping
the scales in one direction or the other right off the
bat.

I am not sure if the original poster is upset that these
guys were able to reschedule or that he went ahead and
bowled on a crappy condition instead of asking for a
reschedule himself.

I say you got screwed. All lanes or no lanes should of been oiled. Then for the near pro bowlers to get it their way, thats not fair.  But, I guess life isnt fair. Thats what they say.

That's nothing. I went to a state tourney about 10 yrs ago. We had to bowl the second squad, but thought it was because our entry was late.

We found out it had nothing to do with the state tourney. It was the morning the yaba league had it's rolloffs and they were rolling it on the pair we were scheduled to bowl on. Then, when our shift started, the house refused to re-oil our pair saying that everyone else would want their pair re-oiled.

Needless to say, it is different bowling a squad after people who know how to bowl and a bunch of kids chunking house balls right down the middle. The oil on our pair was smeared to high heaven and you couldn't get a read on it to save your life.

I really didn't think this was a fair situation, but we drove 450 miles to bowl in it and didn't have the option to re-schedule, so we just had to take what we got, which was screwed.

hey jac

I wasnt complaining, I was sharing the story and wondered what people thought about it.  I bowled on the crappy shot, and started out good, 659 for the first 3 games, I strugggled the second 3 and only shot about 560, but that was as much due to fatigue as the dry shot.  I didnt think it was so terrible, in fact Ive bowled on my worse many times.  I only found out about the drama because I had to wait for them to pay off brackets and pots, I did manage to win 1 bracket so all wasnt lost, it was the other bowlers in the same squad who were peeved about the situation, they had to bowl, no option given to them at all.

Perfecone,

This is the reason why a lot of people on here don't go to city tournaments- whether it's a youth tournament or an adult tournament. They are usually run by people who have no idea about how to run a tournament anyway.
