how should I re-drill
« on: December 24, 2010, 02:35:48 AM »
Lately they always have very heavy and long oil and my heavy oil ball has problem making the turn. It'd work OK if I slow down or take the surface down to 800, which would not last long before smoothing out.

I want to get it re-drilled so I can muscle it or put more speed to it. Please help. I'd like to keep the surface at 2000.

At present, the ball's drilling angle=25 deg; pin to Pap=3 in.; angle to Val=50 deg.

Thanks!

Mo recommends smaller VAL angles to handle heavier oil.

Surface will have a more significant effect on ball reaction than most drilling changes, especially because you already are using a fairly short pin to PAP.

600 or 800 grit US (1000 grit Abralon) will nicely handle a good deal of oil when put on an oiler. It is the easiest thing to change on a ball.

Also use a towel with a cleaner that is a permitted to be used DURING competition to wipe your ball off between frames. Remedy is a good choice.
At a minimum, use a micro-fiber towel to wipe off your ball before each frame.

I would try a surface change before re-drilling it as stated above.. Take it to 500 and see what it will do for you...

Did I miss it ? what ball we talking about here ?

if resurface plus x hole is not going the job for ya, then u could do few things

instead of plug and redrill, get a new ball which will cost ya bit more but will definitely do the job for ya or get it redrilled

a 3 inch to axis is semi weak, get 4 1/2. make sure that ur ball's finish is 500, and then 2000

When a house bowler misses the mark, misses the break point and strike, for many ppl its called a wallshot. When a pro does that its call adjustment

When a house bowler gets his finger stuck in the ball and fall on the lanes, for many ppl its called lame bowler. When a pro does that its called the Machuga flop! ha i like this one.

Thanks a lot! I'll discuse your advice with my driller and see what I'll end up with. I am pretty sure I'll lean toward your ideas, which are actually pretty similar to mine.
