How spoiled are bowlers?
« on: August 15, 2009, 11:46:41 PM »
I was at my league meeting last Wednesday night and couple of things that got me thinking about how much things have changed in just the past few years.

Our league starts at 9pm, and people were complaining because the house wasn't going to strip and oil the lanes fresh for our league.  Last year we were in a different house and we had a completely fresh shot each night...so people wanted the same in the new house.

Does the other team not bowl on the exact same thing you are bowling on each week?  If they put the US Open pattern on your pair why does it matter?  You just have to beat the team you are matched up against....if you shoot 90 pins under average and win...what's the problem?

(and don't give me this "but I'm in brackets" crap either....you still have to make shots)

I saw someone complaining on a message board about a tournament not putting out the advertised shot.  They said they were using a particular PBA pattern and it apparently was some variation of it.  They were mad because they brought their "______ pattern equipment".

I understand that the game is very technical now....but when we have become so dependent on the balls and oil that we can't possibly compete unless we have the ball for that house...or that pattern.  Now I know that on tour it does matter that much...but those guys are doing it for a living...but we do it for fun.

Just a couple of observations....

Something that was told to me a long time ago. "bowlers that don't have a clue, don't know enough to complain" "bowlers who think they have a clue, complain" "bowlers that really have a clue, don't complain". To answer your question, yes a lot of bowlers are spoiled.

Bowling is like life. Sometimes you are the ball. Other times you are the pins.

One man was even heard saying hes not paying 25 dollars a nite to shoot 190. It's the sad state of our game but people will always complain.

If the truth be known, he's probably no better than a 190 bowler anyway, and possibly he's even much worse without an easy shot.

I think for 25 bucks a night the house should put an effort into laying out some kind of pattern and even changeing up things from time to time.if you charge me say 12 bucks a night I'll bowl on anything.

The modern day scoring arcades make some of the hot shot prima donnas expect nothing but a strike on every shot.

it's not just the age of entitlement, it's the age of the blame game..

personally, being used to a generally tougher house shot, i only look at myself, even if the oiling machine messes up and puts down a 60 ft flat shot (has happened) i make do the best i can.  i get mad if i miss my target by a board, regardless of the result.

i see bowlers who seem to think they are really good, miss their mark by say 3 boards, gesturing wildly at the pins as tho they can't believe the ball went thru the nose/slid by the head pin.  i always get a chuckle out of them..

Alot of bowlers are lazy whiny people who think good scores should be handed to them on a sliver platter, god forbid anyone actually work for  numbers or work at getting better.
