How hard is it to remember a ball name?
« on: April 27, 2004, 02:09:39 PM »
Bowling ball names are short, how hard can it be?  How can you pay that little attention to it?  Know a guy with a Stinger, calls it his STringer.  Another guy always calls the X-Factor Deuce the Deuce Two X-Factor.  Even more people will come into the shop and describe their ball when we ask what it is.  Some of these people even think they're good bowlers or claim to be really into bowling, but somehow always forget which ball they're shooting all their big 229 games with.  How can you help someone without a clue?  If they say the ball they have hooks too much, how can we help them pick out a ball if they can't remember the name of the one they have that they conveniently also left at home?  I realize this sport doesn't attract the cream of the crop, but holy gee whiz, Batman.

Hand them a catalog and tell them to look at the nice pitchers and pick the one they have. For those who can only remember the smell, storm has a scratch and sniff catalog for the less inclinde to be smart.

Hey not everyone can be smart.

I've often enjoyed stupid people at times and befriended some of them.

They can be a lot of fun.

You can actually have a lot of fun with this if you didn't view it so seriously.

Comments such as
"Well that helps me a lot!"  are usually not taken as an insult.

Another that works, "Now you son of a gun, you're just tryin to be coy with me!"
"You just don't want me to know what your using so that I don't bowl that good!"
"You sly dog"  laughing works good in there too!

I love the guys that come in like "I need a new ball" and we're like "Well what do you roll with now?" ".....Uhhh...some old Brunswick, its out in the car" and they bring it back and it's a Messenger.

It's always good for a laugh, but also sad cause they really have no idea.
