Everything is hooking EARLY
« on: June 18, 2010, 05:55:02 AM »
I'm only bowling one night a week this summer, and everything I roll is hooking early and going through the nose or brooklyn.  Even if I try to take same hand out of it.  No one else in the league is having the same issue, so it must be something I'm doing terribly wrong.  Any obvious things to look at that could be causing this???

Need alot more info.
Ball speed, equipment used, part of the lane your trying to play are just some of the things needed.

My first thought is that you are coming around the ball too early.  That causes side roll the whole way down the lane.  Try to stay behind the ball longer to see if that helps.

Try to be more versitile in your game and perhaps use less hand. It's either that or your doing something wrong with your timing. My dad years ago used to get the ball down the lane now he thinks the alley never puts out oil which isn't true.

Experiment with a strong or weak release and speed control Try to use the arrows or close marks and feed it to an area down the lane.

Pick your feet up and move them to the left. Move your targets left to keep them in oil longer.

Key to the game is adjusting

answer is hard to deliver with lack of information... but it is probably as simple as you are not adjusting and everyone else is...

Yup, more info needed for a proper diagnosis, e. g. some stats about your game (PAP, revs, speed), maybe lane conditions and the balls and layouts you are using.

But since many centers tend to cut down the oil volume during summer, and your eqipment normally works properly (?), I'd assume that you are just using too aggressive equipment on too little oil, so that even taking hand out of the release does not help.

You can either try moving (much) deeper and try playing through deeper head oil (aiming at 3rd arrow or even more), add some fine grit and polish to your ball and see what happens, or switch to weaker equipment, potentially drilled for length.

I totally agree with Dizzy in that without as many bowlers during the summer, proprietors often put out less oil resulting in a "dry season".  Warmer temperatures and climate changes are a factor too.

I've spent more time using mid-entry level equipment with smoother surface preps and weaker layouts.  My green avalanche pin 6" to my PAP (under middle finger) has gotten the most use of any ball in my bag.  See if balling down will help you find the length and hold you'll need
