How to maintain an expensive bowling ball?
« on: August 02, 2013, 02:32:36 PM »
I bought a Storm Lucid, and I pay $5 to polish it.

What do I need to do to maintain the polish and the condition of the ball?

Find a good cleaner, take 5 mins after every bowling session to clean it, and every 10 games or so that you bowl with that ball, redo the surface (4000/polish or whatever you like)

the best advice, go to your local shop. it fast, clean, and pretty cheap for the amount of polish that I recommend which isnt much. If not and you dont want to go that route, then find a good polish, like the storm polishes and many others, that you can use by hand. Use a light amount and water, hand apply, let sit for a min then wipe off. To me though, I have a spinner at home, I work in a shop and nothing (to me) is better. Im lazy though, lol! Im sure there are others who are more eager than I to do hand polishing. Im just not one of them.

IMO, the most important thing you can do to maintain your ball's surface is to wipe it clean with a microfiber towel before throwing it.  EVERY TIME.  --  JohnP

Personally have never used it. But it is cheaper them a spinner and might work out. I spent the money on a spinner.

Wipe the ball to remove oil, can I use a regular towel?

Can polishing the ball help hide the scratches?

A regular towel is not as affective at absorbing lane oil and what not between shots or when cleaning the ball after use.

Polishing over deep scratches doesn't hide them.  In fact the polish might accumulate in them and make them even more evident until the ball is thoroughly cleaned.

ALL reactive and urethane balls benefit from regular cleaning and less frequent deep cleaning.  They also need regular resurfacing and surface touch ups to keep the surface, and ball reaction, consistent.
